Sınıf Öğretmenlerinin Beklentilerinin Öğrenci Başarısına Etkisinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Sınıf öğretmenlerinin öğretmen beklenti düzeyinin belirlenmesi ve sınıf öğretmenlerinin, öğretmen beklentilerinin öğrenci başarısına etkisine yönelik görüşlerinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmada nitel ve nicel verilerden yararlanılarak karma araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel veri için örneklem grubunu 2023-2024 eğitim öğretim yılında Manisa Yunusemre ilçesinde mesleğini icra eden 150 ilkokul sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada nicel veri toplama aracı olarak Kamile AÇIKGÖZ ve Arzu GÜNGÖR KILIÇ tarafından geliştirilen Öğretmen Beklenti Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel verileri IBM SPSS 23 paket programı ile analiz edilerek, frekans, yüzdelik, ortalama, medyan, basıklık, çarpıklık, normallik hesaplamalarının yanında gruplar arası karşılaştırmalarda bağımsız örneklem t testi uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada nitel veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Rastgele örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen 150 öğretmen içerisinden, ulaşılabilen 116 öğretmenden toplanan veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın nicel sonuçlarına göre ilkokul sınıf öğretmenlerinin, öğrencilerden beklentileri; “Bir yüksekokuldan mezun olacak”, “Akademik kariyer edinecek”, “Ekonomik sorunlar yaşayacak”, “Fikir yürüten bireyler olmayacak”, “Kendi özel çabaları sonucu başarılı olacak”, “Daha düzenli olacak” şeklinde ve daha çok olumsuz beklentilerin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmanın nitel sonuçlarında öğretmen beklentilerinin, öğrencilerin başarılarını etkilediği sonucu elde edilmiştir.

Investigating the Effect of Classroom Teachers’ Expectations on Students Success

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the level of teacher expectations among primary school teachers and to examine their views on the impact of these expectations on student achievement. In the study, a mixed-methods research design was employed by utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data. The sample group of the research consists of 150 primary school teachers working in the Yunusemre district of Manisa during the 2023–2024 academic year. As a quantitative data collection tool, the Teacher Expectation Scale developed by Kamile Açıkgöz and Arzu Güngör Kılıç was used. Quantitative data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 23 statistical software package, including calculations of frequency, percentage, mean, median, kurtosis, skewness, and normality. Additionally, independent samples t-test was conducted for comparisons between groups. As a qualitative data collection tool, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used. Among the 150 teachers selected through random sampling, data were collected from 116 teachers who were accessible, and these data were analyzed using the content analysis method. According to the quantitative findings of the study, primary school teachers’ expectations regarding their students include statements such as “will graduate from a higher education institution,” “will pursue an academic career,” “will experience economic difficulties,” “will not become individuals who can think critically,” “will succeed through their own individual efforts,” and “will become more organized,” with a predominance of negative expectations being identified. The qualitative findings indicate that teacher expectations affect students’ success and failure, and it was observed that teachers’ expectations toward students are predominantly negative.
