The Relationship Between 8th Grade Students'ʹ Number Sense And Achievement Related to Exponentials

Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between eighth grade students’ number sense
and achievements related to exponentials. The study group consists of 48 eighth grade students in a
public school. The data collection tools are "ʺThe achievement test related to exponentials"ʺ developed
by the researcher and “The number sense scale related to exponentials” developed by Iymen (2012).
The study is survey model to determine the relationship between eighth grade students’ number sense
and achievements related to exponentials and the pearson correlation coefficient is calculated to
determine this relationship.
As a result of the study, eighth grade students’ achievement related to using their number sense is low
in exponentials questions, their achievement related to exponentials is mid level. In addition, student’
achievement scores related to exponentials is higher than their number sense scores from the same
question. The results also revealed that the scores of the students on exponentials are significantly
correlated with their number sense related to exponentials.

8. Sınıf Öğrencilerinin Üslü İfadelere İlişkin Sayı Duyuları ve Başarıları Arasındaki İlişki

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin üslü ifadelere ilişkin sayı duyuları ve başarıları arasındaki ilişkinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, bir devlet okulunun 8. sınıf öğrencilerinden 48 kişi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın veri toplama araçlarını, araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “Üslü ifadelere yönelik başarı testi” ve İymen (2012) tarafından geliştirilen “Üslü ifadelere yönelik sayı duyusu ölçeği” oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma, ilişkisel tarama modelindedir ve ilişkiyi saptamak için pearson korelasyon katsayısı hesaplanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda, sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin üslü ifade sorularında sayı duyularını kullanma başarılarının düşük olduğu, üslü ifadelere ilişkin başarılarının ise orta seviyede olduğu sonucu ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin üslü ifadelerle ilgili aynı sorulardan aldıkları başarı puanlarının, sayı duyusu puanlarına göre daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bunun dışında, sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin üslü ifadelere ilişkin başarıları ve sayı duyuları yüksek derecede ilişkili bulunmuştur
