Parental Images and Representations of God

Over the past decade, the "Centre for Psychology of Religion" of Louvain has focused on the empirical study of parental figures as mediators of the representation of God in contemporary subjects. The developed instrument consists of a list of 36 qualities, 18 paternal qualities that is to say, generally attributed to the figure of the Father, and 18 maternal qualities that subjects must first involve the two parental images and then to the figure of God. And on a scale unipolar to 7 degrees. Data analysis was conducted mainly through the technique of Osgood differential semantics, allows the imposition of meanings and quantitative measurements to compare the profiles in terms of semantic distance. The semantic scale was developed in the Dutch and later adapted into French, Spanish and English. One of the most important results was the establishment of greater experimental complexity of the paternal figure compared to the sharpness of the maternal figure and, therefore, the symbolic power of the largest image of the Father in mediating the divine figure. In addition to this overall analysis, the various researches indulged in a very thorough differential study, based on the relevant variables of sex, age and intellectual background. Then we devised a more complete (32 qualities) and especially better validated through a series of factor analysis. This survey, conducted in English, reflects more closely the North American mindset that made the original questionnaire on a Dutch-Belgian population. Finally, collected all data from previous studies, we undertook a cross-cultural study, involving four continents, in order to ascertain to what extent the results obtained by previous research were dependent on cultural factors.

Anne-Baba İmgeleri ve Tanrı Temsilleri

Son on yıl içinde Louvain’deki “Din Psikolojisi Merkezi”, çağdaş konular içerisinde Tanrı temsilinin aracıları olarak anne-baba figürleri üzerine yapılan ampirik çalışmalara odaklanmıştır. Konuyla ilgili geliştirilen ölçme aracı, adı geçen kavramlara ilişkin 36 özelliğin bir listesini içermektedir. Bunlardan 18 özellik açıkça babayla ilgilidir. Yani bir diğer ifadeyle, genellikle Baba figürüne atfedilen nitelikleri kapsamaktadır. Diğer 18’i ise ilk olarak anne-baba görüntüsünü ve daha sonra da, Tanrı figürüyle ilintili anneye ait niteliklerden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada kullanılan söz konusu ölçme aracı, tek kutup üzerinde 7 dereceli bir ölçektir. Ulaşılan verilerin analizinde ise, başlıca semantik uzaklıklar açısından elde edilen kavramsal görüntüleri karşılaştırmak için nicelleştirme ölçümleri yapabilmek ve bunların anlamlarının yüklenmesine olanak sağlayabilmek amacıyla Osgood semantik farklılıklar tekniği kullanılmıştır. Konuyla ilgili oluşturulan semantik ölçek, önce Flemenkçe olarak geliştirilmiş ve daha sonra da, Fransızca, İspanyolca ve İngilizce’ye uyarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın en önemli sonuçlarından birisi, anneye ilişkin figürün açıklığına karşın babaya ait figürün büyük deneysel karmaşıklığa sahip olmasıydı. Dolayısıyla, Tanrısal figür üzerinden Baba imgesinin sembolik gücünün oluşturulmasıydı. Bu yapılan genel analize ek olarak, çalışma kapsamında kullanılan çeşitli araştırmalar, cinsiyet, yaş ve entelektüel geçmişleriyle ilişkili değişkenlere dayanan ayrımsal çalışma içerisinde tolere edilmiştir. Çalışmanın ileriki aşamasında, 32 özelliği de içine alan daha kapsamlı bir tasarım yapılmış ve özellikle bir dizi faktör analiziyle de bu doğrulanmıştır. İngilizce yürütülen bu araştırmada, Felemenkçe konuşan Belçika örneklemi üzerinde uygulanan orijinal anket, Kuzey Amerika zihniyetini daha yakın bir biçimde yansıtmıştır. Sonuç olarak, daha önceki araştırmalardan toplanmış tüm verileri dikkate alarak biz, dört kıtayı kapsayan kültürlerarası bir çalışmayı üstlendik. Böylelikle konuyla ilgili önceki araştırmalardan elde edilen sonuçların, kültürel faktörlere ne ölçüde dayandığını doğru bir biçimde tespit etmeyi amaçladık.
