Abstract

Examining the Effects of Preparing Digital Storytelling in Science and Technology Course on the Academically Inadequate Students Spending Much Time on Computers

Year 2018, , 306 - 335, 31.12.2018

Abstract

The study investigates the effects of preparing digital storytelling as
a project task in Science and Technology courses on the academically
insufficient students who spend much time on computers

With this respect, it was aimed to develop students who have low
performance in their courses and spend much time on computers, to increase
their success levels and enhance their interest in Science and Technology
courses, to load them with the opinions of how project tasks should be conducted
by means of digital stories. The study was designed according to the action
research procedures of qualitative research design.
In the study,
as a project task, the students were asked to prepare a digital story about energy sources which is a theme in the 8th
class Science and Technology course program.
The data of the study included semi-structured
interview questions and a success test. The study was conducted with eight 8th
class students. At the end of the study, it was found out that the students
mostly enjoyed digital storytelling, as well as learning the course while
having fun and enhancing their interest in the Science and Technology course.
Besides, it was concluded that project tasks should be conducted through using
computers, should be joyful and suitable for the students’ level, and should
cover preparing digital storytelling. Furthermore, it is suggested in the study
that digital storytelling should be incorporated into learning atmosphere as
well as be employed for the whole class and for other courses as well.
