ÇOCUK HASTALARDA “DENTAL KAYGI VE DAVRANIŞ İDARESİ PROBLEMLERİNİN” GÖRÜLME SIKLIĞI VE ETİYOLOJİK FAKTÖRLERİ

Year 2013, Volume: 2 Issue: 1, 62 - 68, 30.04.2013

Abstract

PREVALENCE AND ETIOLOGIC FACTORS OF “DENTAL ANXIETY AND BEHAVIORAL MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS” IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS

Year 2013, Volume: 2 Issue: 1, 62 - 68, 30.04.2013

Abstract

Dental fear occurs as a normal emotional reaction owing to some threatening provocateurs during dental procedures. Dental anxiety is a state of apprehension relating to some ideas about “dreadful things are going to happen during the dental treatment” and sense of losing control. The prevalence of “dental fear, anxiety and behavioral management problems” in children is between 5-20 %. The prevalence of behavioral management problems is higher in younger children and children with dental fear and when the child feels pain. Also, dentist and dental personnel’s behaviors effect how children give reaction when they are under stress, feel pain and uncomfortable. This article is about prevalence and etiologic factors of dental anxiety and behavioral management problems in children in different populations.
