Manuscript Formatting and Submission Guidelines
Journal of the Institute of Science and Technology of Balıkesir University is a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes significant, original, and high-quality research and study articles covering topics relevant to all departments of Science, Engineering, and Architecture. It is published twice a year, in January and July.
Manuscripts submitted for publication in the journal must not have been previously published, submitted for publication elsewhere, or accepted for publication in another journal. For manuscripts that have been presented at any scientific meeting but not published in its proceedings, the name, location, and date of the meeting must be clearly stated.
The publisher, editor, and editorial board of the journal are not responsible for the views and opinions expressed by the authors, nor are they liable for any ethical violations that may arise; the full responsibility for the articles and writings published in the journal belongs entirely to the author(s).
Manuscripts submitted to the journal for publication first undergo a preliminary evaluation regarding formatting and submission criteria. Manuscripts that do not comply with the formatting guidelines will not be forwarded to reviewers. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are sent to at least two reviewers for content evaluation. The peer-review process is double-blind; the identities of the reviewers are not disclosed to the authors, and the identities of the authors are not disclosed to the reviewers. Reviewer reports are strictly confidential. Manuscripts that do not receive positive reports from the reviewers will not be published and will not be returned to the author(s); no administrative or legal liability is accepted in this regard. Manuscripts requiring revisions by the reviewers are sent back to the author(s) for the necessary modifications. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to submit the revised manuscript to the journal within the specified deadline.
Manuscripts must be submitted electronically to the editors as a single copy. To submit a manuscript online, authors must register with the system and log in to their user accounts. After logging in, the manuscript can be registered into the system using the "Submit Manuscript" (Makale Gönder) link. Submitted manuscripts must include the author names. The double-blind peer-review process will be initiated by the respective field editor. Manuscripts submitted for publication must not exceed 20 pages, including appendices and references. When uploading manuscripts to the system, the Title, Keywords, and Abstract must be entered into the DergiPark metadata in a second language, in addition to the original language of the manuscript.
In line with the decisions of the ULAKBIM TR Dizin, an Ethics Committee Approval certificate is required for manuscripts submitted to our journal. Please CLICK HERE to access detailed information regarding this matter.
For Research and Review articles, the maximum permissible similarity index is set at 20% for the entire manuscript. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be RETURNED to the authors without being initiated into the peer-review process. Therefore, authors are strongly advised to check and ensure that their manuscripts comply with this similarity limit before uploading them to the system.
Thank you for your cooperation and interest.

The English Abstract text must follow the exact formatting guidelines specified for the Turkish abstract. |
| Main Headings | Main headings must be numbered sequentially (e.g., 1. Introduction, 2. Experimental studies). All headings must be left-aligned, written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, bold, with only the first letter of the first word capitalized. Leave 2 blank lines before and 1 blank line after main headings. |
| Subheadings | Subheadings must be numbered in accordance with the main heading sequence. All subheadings must be left-aligned, written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, bold, and italic, with only the first letter of the first word capitalized (e.g., 2.1. Materials, 2.2. Heat treatments). A single blank line must be left before subheadings, and the text should immediately follow without any blank lines. |
| Figures, Images, and Photographs | Figures must be centered, sharp, and legible, ensuring they do not exceed the page margins. They must be numbered sequentially. Figure numbers and captions must be centered below the figure, with only the first letter of the first word capitalized. Figures must either be drawn with a professional drafting software or scanned at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The font size of letters and numbers within charts, graphs, and text boxes inside the figures must not be smaller than a 9 pt font size in Times New Roman relative to the main body text. A single blank line must be left before the figure, as well as before and after the figure caption. All figures must be explicitly cited within the main text before they appear. |

Table numbers and titles must be centered above the table, separated by a single blank line, with only the first letter of the first word capitalized. Leave a single blank line both above and below the table title, and another single blank line after the table itself. Tables must be explicitly cited within the main text before they appear. Text and numbers within table rows and columns must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt. However, if strictly necessary to fit within the margins, the font size may be reduced down to a minimum of 9 pt. |
| Equations | Equations to be included in the text must be written using the Equation Editor in Microsoft Word, aligned to the left. Equation numbers must be assigned sequentially and placed in parentheses, aligned to the right margin. |
| Symbols and Notations | If the manuscript contains numerous symbols or requires a nomenclature section, symbols must be listed in Times New Roman, 12 pt, italic, in compliance with international standards, right before the References section. In decimal notations, a period (dot) must be used. Commas or periods must not be used as thousands separators; a single space may be used if necessary. |
| References | References must be numbered sequentially in the order they appear in the text. The bibliography at the end of the manuscript must strictly match this citation order. Citations within the text should be formatted either at the end of the sentence as "... [1]." or within the sentence as "... [1], ...". When citing multiple consecutive references, they should be formatted as [1-4] instead of [1,2,3,4]. Non-consecutive references must be listed as [8, 11, 15]. References must be written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, with only the journal, book, or symposium/proceedings titles set in bold. Journal names for national and international articles in the references section must be written out in full, not abbreviated (e.g., use Water Resources instead of Wat. Res.). |
