ÜNİVERSİTE MEZUNU YETİŞKİNLERİN FARKLI ORGANİZASYONLARDA GÖNÜLLÜ HİZMET VERMESİNİ ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER

Year 2008, Volume: 11 Issue: 19, 95 - 106, 01.06.2008

Abstract

Factors Influencing College Graduate Adults to Provide Volunteer Service in Different Organizations

Year 2008, Volume: 11 Issue: 19, 95 - 106, 01.06.2008

Abstract

Problem: The number of volunteer organizations and volunteers serving in these organizations can be accepted as a developmental indicator for many countries. Turkish society has traditionally valued volunteering but has not fully utilized the potential of such contributions. This could be due to the limited number of professional volunteering orgnizations. However, so far, limited research has been done on Turkish volunteers to reach an accurate conclusion. Research Aims: The primary purpose of this study has been to determine factors influencing the motivation of college graduate adults to participate in any volunteer organization in the provinces of Balikesir and Kahramanmaras. Method: A questionnaire was given to a sample of 181 college graduate adults, determined by Cochran’s sample size determination formula. SPSS version 11.5 SPSS Inc., 2002 was used for data analyses. Descriptive statistics, including means and standard deviations, factor analysis and ttest were used to accomplish the objectives of the study. Findings ad Results: Research findings indicate that respondents were motivated to perform volunteer work for altruistic reasons, personal achievement, and affiliative reasons, respectively. Recommendations: The findings of this study verify that factors which influence individuals to perform volunteer service for organizations may change in different countries, cultures, and societies. For this reason, organizations seeking to attract volunteers and utilize their contributions need to conduct extensive and multidimensional research in this subject
