This research was conducted at Antalya and Mersin ecological conditions at main growth season to compare grain yield and green grass yield performance of some grain and silage hybrid maize varieties and to determine the suitable unregistered grain maize variety The trials was designed according to randomized complete block with three replications In this research was used 4 maize silage varieties, totally 10 maize grain varieties in which 4 unregistered candidate grain maize within different FAO gropus.
Average of varieties in research, the highest grain yield was obtained from the standard grain maize variety PR31A34 with 1496 kg/da; and the lowest one the standart silage variety OSSK 644 with 1070 kg/da. The unregistered grain maize candidate variety ISH 715 took first place with its1406 kg/da yield. In research, the highest greengrass yield was obtained from the standard silage maize variety PR31Y43 with 7930 kg/da yield; and the lowest yield was obtained from the standard grain maize variety DKC 6589 with 58553 kg/da. The candidate grain maize ISH 714 took first place among candidate varieties with its 7685 kg/da green grass yield.
In research, grain maize varieties showed good performance for grain yield; maize silage varieties showed good performance for green grass yield and it is thought that using the varieties in their area of use would be true. In additional, the candidate grain maize variety ISH 715 showed the powerful performance for green grass yield according to another varieties and another candidate varieties, although it’s a grain maize variety.
