Abstract
Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kurucusu Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ün özelliklerinden biri de, halkla iç içe olmasıdır. Bunun doğal bir sonucu olarak Atatürk, muhatap olduğu insanlara ve resmi görevlilere maddi ya da manevi hediyeler vermekten de çok hoşnut kalırdı. Bu hediyeler arasında saatlerin özel bir yeri vardı. Atatürk’ün hediye ettiği saatlerden en çok bilinen ve tekrarlanan iki saat vardır. Bunlar, Alman generali Liman von Sanders’e ve küçük bir çocuk olan Altan’a hediye ettiği saatlerdir. İlki, Atatürk’ü Çanakkale Muharebeleri’nde bir şarapnel parçasından kendisini kurtaran saattir. Hayatını kurtaran bu saati Alman generaline hediye etmesi ast üst ilişkisi kapsamında verilmiş bir hediyedir. Oysa Altan’a hediye ettiği saat farklı özellikler taşımaktadır. Atatürk, ölümünden birkaç yıl önce İstanbul’da gittiği bir otelde Altan’ı görür. Yanına çağırdığı Altan ile uzun uzun sohbet eder. Babası bir subay olan Altan’ın verdiği cevaplardan memnun kalan Atatürk, o gecenin bir anısı olmak üzere küçük çocuğa bir saat hediye eder. Saat uzunca bir süre Altan’ın ailesi tarafından kıymetli bir emanet olarak özenle saklanır. Ne var ki, genç yaşta kanser hastalığına yakalanan Altan’ın tedavisi için bir bankaya rehin bırakılır. O saatin hȃlȃ emanet edilen bankada olup olmadığı konusunda yaptığımız girişimlerden sonuç alamadık.
Atatürk’ün Altan’a hediye ettiği saat o günün koşullarında bir servet değerindedir. Atatürk, hiç tanımadığı halde sevgisini göstermek için kıymetli bir saatini bir çocuğa hediye etmiştir. Bu, Atatürk’ün çocuklara olan sevgisini de gösteren etkileyici bir örnektir. Kurduğu cumhuriyeti gelecek nesillere emanet eden Atatürk, çocukların eğitimine verdiği önem ve destekle de bilinmektedir. Bu yazıda Atatürk’ün bir çocuğa verdiği bir saatin serüveni, dönemin kaynaklarından istifade ederek inceleyeceğiz.

Abstract
One of Atatürk’s characteristics is that he is intertwined with the people. As a natural consequence of this, Atatürk would also be very pleased to give gifts or moral gifts to the people and officials he was dealing with. Among these gifts, watches had a special place. Among the watches that Atatürk gave as a gift, there are two most known and repeated watches. These are the watches he gave to the German general Liman von Sanders and to a little boy Altan. The first is the clock that saved Atatürk from a piece of shrapnel in the Battles of Çanakkale. The gift of this watch, which saved his life, to the German general, is a gift made among the soldiers. However, the watch that Atatürk gave to Altan has different features. Atatürk saw Altan in a hotel he went to in Istanbul a few years before his death. He has a long conversation with Altan. Atatürk is very pleased with Altan’s answers and gives the little boy a watch as a memory of that night. The watch was carefully kept by Altman’s family as a precious trust for a long time. However, Altan, who caught cancer at a young age, is left hostage to a bank for his treatment. We could not get results from our attempts to determine whether that watch is still in the deposited bank or not.
The watch that Atatürk gave to Altan is worth a fortune under the conditions of that day. This incident shows Atatürk’s love for children. In this article, we will examine the adventure of a clock that Atatürk gave to a child, using the resources of the period.
