Seeing a Mother with a Premature Baby through the Framework of Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Theory: Case Report

Abstract

Today, the use of theory in care practices is becoming widespread. Breastfeeding is an area where nurses are very effective and it is important to support it with theory. When the barriers to breastfeeding are examined, the mother's negative perception of "insufficient milk" is one of the most important reasons for early termination of breastfeeding or supplementation with additional nutrients. This idea is related to the mother's perception of self-efficacy. Breastfeeding self-efficacy perception is the mother's confidence about breastfeeding and her belief in her ability to perform breastfeeding. This perception indicates whether or not she will continue breastfeeding. The Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Theory, developed by Cindy Lee Dennis, identifies sources of information, perceptions of self-efficacy, personal responses and outcomes that shape breastfeeding self-efficacy perception. The aim of this case report is to examine Mrs. Y.K., who had a preterm birth and negative breastfeeding experience in her first breastfeeding attempt, according to Dennis' Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Theory and to create a sample intervention plan for the use of the theory.

Emzirme Öz-yeterlilik Kuramı Çerçevesinden Prematüre Bebeği Olan Anneyi İncelemek: Olgu Sunumu

Abstract

Günümüzde bakım uygulamalarında kuram kullanımı yaygınlaşmaktadır. Emzirme, hemşirenin oldukça etkin olduğu ve kuramla hemşirelik girişimlerin desteklenmesi gereken önemli olan bir alandır. Anne sütü alımında ki engeller incelendiğinde annenin “yetersiz süt” konusunda ki olumsuz algısı emzirmeyi erken noktalama veya ek besinlerle destekleme konusunda en önemli nedenlerden biridir. Bu düşünce annenin öz-yeterlilik algısıyla ilişkilidir. Emzirme öz-yeterlilik algısı annenin emzirme hakkında kendine olan güvenidir ve emzirmeyi gerçekleştirme konusunda hissettiği inançtır. Bu algı emzirmeye devam edip etmeyeceğini gösterir. Cindy Lee Dennis tarafından geliştirilen Emzirme Öz-Yeterlilik Kuramı, emzire öz-yeterlilik algısını şekillendiren bilgi kaynakları, öz-yeterlilik algısı, kişisel yanıtlar ve sonuçlar oluşturmaktadır. Bu olgu sunumunun amacı erken doğum ve ilk emzirme denemesinde olumsuz emzirme deneyimi yaşayan Y.K’nin Dennis’in Emzirme Öz-Yeterlilik Kuramına göre incelemek ve kuram kullanıma yönelik örnek bir girişim planı oluşturmaktır.
