Investigation of some morphometric and otolith features of Engraulis encrasicolus L., 1758 fished in Blacksea and Marmara Sea

Abstract

Anchovy Engraulis encrasicolus L., 1758 is a fish species that the most consumed and have intensive fishing potential in Turkey. Anchovy make a major contribution to fisheries especially in Blacksea, as well as worldwide. In this study, it was aimed to determine differences in terms of both morphometric and otolith features among Blacksea and Marmara Seas, 281 individuals obtained from commercial fisherman from between December and February 2014. 24 different type of measurement were taken from the samples to use in morphometry study with the digital calipers ±0,001 mm . Logarithmic transformation were used to eliminate the variation depending on body size and shape for morphometric measurements. Otolith breadth OB and length OL , ± 0.001 mm were determined by Leica Application Suit Ver. 3.8 Imaging Software. Otolith weights OW were detected for left and right using Pressicia precision scales 0.0001 g . Karadeniz ve Marmara denizlerinde avlanan Engraulis encrasicolus L., 1758’un bazı morfometrik ve otolit özelliklerinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Hamsi Engraulis encrasicolus L., 1758 Türkiye’de en fazla tüketilen ve yoğun avcılık potansiyeline sahip bir balık türüdür. Dünya çapında olduğu gibi hamsi başta Karadeniz olmak üzere oldukça önemli miktarda balıkçılığa katkı sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Karadeniz ve Marmara Denizlerinden Aralık 2013 ve Şubat 2014 tarihleri arasında ticari balıkçılardan temin edilen 281 adet örnek hem morfometrik hem de otolit özellikleri açısından incelenerek lokaliteler arasındaki farklılıklar belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Tür üzerinden 24 farklı ölçüm morfometri çalışmalarında kullanılmak üzere dijital kumpas yardımıyla ±0,001 mm alınmıştır. Türe ait morfometrik ölçümlerde vücut büyüklüğü ve şekillerine bağlı varyasyonların ortadan kaldırılması için logaritmik dönüşümler kullanılmıştır. Otolitler üzerinden, en ve boy Leica Application Suit Ver. 3.8 marka görüntü analiz programı ile belirlenmiştir. Otolit Ağırlıkları sağ ve sol otolitler için Pressicia marka hassas terazi 0,0001 g kullanılarak tartılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar Marmara ve Karadeniz populasyonları arasında otolit boyu ve otolit ağırlıklarının istatistiksel olarak farklı olduğunu göstermiştir p
