Faunistic survey studies on harmful and beneficial insects on lucerne and sainfoin in Ankara and Konya provinces.

Abstract

Survey  studies  on the lucerne and sainfoin  fields  in Ankara and Konya  were carried out  in order to determine harmful and beneficial insect  fauna  between 1990-1991. Samples were collected from 3 counties of each provinces, 3 villages of each county and 3 fields of each village. Counting were done by taking the samples on ground,  the leaves and stem,  checking the roots, sweeping. Counting have been done once a month. In this study, 60 different species  in 13 Coleoptera, in 10 Heteroptera, in 27 Homoptera, in 8 Thysanoptera, in 1 Hymenoptera, in 1  Lepidoptera  as harmful insects and 36 different species in 12 Coleoptera, in 5 Heteroptera, in 2 Thysanoptera, in 11 Hymenoptera, in 6  Diptera  as beneficial insects have been identified on  lucerne and sainfoin. According to the obtained results,  the lucerne and sainfoin fields  have a very rich  harmful and beneficial insects fauna. Among these species,  It has been determined that Bembecia scopigera   (Scopoli.)  and Sphenoptera  carceli  Cast. and Groy  are the most important pests in sainfoin fields. Hypera variabilis  Hbst., H.farinosa  Boh.  are most important pests  in lucerne fields. In addition, Bruchophagus  roddi  Guss.  which is harmful in lucerne seed  is  first record in lucerne fields and Turkey. In addition, since lucerne  fields  are  very rich  with respect to beneficial  insects, they should be  prevented from the harm of pesticides.
