Research on utilizing possibilities of the forecasting-warning models to disease control of grapevine powdery mildew [<em>Erysiphe</em> <em>necator</em>Schw. (<em>Uncinula necator </em>Schw.) Burr.] in Erzincan vineyards

Abstract

In this study, the possibilities to take advantage of forecast-warning model were investigated in the fight of contention of powdery mildew (Erysiphe necator) disease. Studies were carried out in a farmer wineyard in the Üzümlü district in the 2005–2008 years.
Karaerik grape cultivar and E. necator were used as the materials for this research. In this study, treatments were applied according to ascospor infection forecasts and conidial infections risk assessment built on UC Davis Powdery Mildew Forecast Model and phenological period of vine. The experiment was designed as to random blocks design by four character (the treatments to ascospore infection forecasts, conidial infections-risk assessment, phenological period and control) and by four repetitions.
In the control of disease; the better results were achieved from conidial infections-risk assessment made according to phenological applications than those according to forecasts ascospor infection application.
The pesticide applications according to conidial infections-risk assessment were protective against infection during the growing season in vineyard. This model caused pesticides to be re-used before effective period over 14 days and the number of pesticide application to increase before the end of effective duration. The treatments according to conidial infections-risk assessment after the first pest-treatment should be applied not as to risk index, but effective duration of fungicides to be used.
The pesticide applications applied to phenological period were observed non- protective against the first infection occuring in the experimental vineyard. In this application, 25–30 cm period of shoot lenght regarded as the start time of disease control was determined as a late period for the start of disease control,. The terms of shoot length to 15–20 cm would be more suitable to start pest control.
