Prevalence of <em>Botrytis cinerea</em> Pers. ex Fr. causing disease on fruit clusters in hazelnut growing areas of Ordu, Giresun and Trabzon provinces and determination of the reactions of some cultivars against pathogen

Abstract

In this study conducted in hazelnut growing areas of Ordu, Giresun and Trabzon provinces between 2008-2010, prevalence of Botrytis cinerea causing disease on fruit clusters and isolation rate of the agent in these provinces, were investigated. Pathogenicity of the agent and reactions of some common cultivars in the region against pathogen, were also investigated.
The prevalence of B. cinerea was found as 92.00% in Ordu, 85.71% in Giresun and 64.86% in Trabzon. The agent was isolated from symptoms of blight and early blight with highest rates.
In the pathogenicity tests, it was observed that the pathogen could enter the plant tissues directly without any wound and caused severe blightening and drying of the leaves and the fruit clusters.

It was concluded from the reaction tests that Çakıldak cultivar with 33.33% - 61.11% disease severity rate was more tolerant than the other five cultivars examined.
