GEBELİKTE OBSTRÜKTİF UYKU APNESİ Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Pregnancy

Abstract

ABSTRACT
The prevalence of sleep-disordered breathing in pregnancy is ever increasing. The physiologic
and hormonal changes due to pregnancy could lead to a predisposition for apneic episodes
during sleep. Because of the increased prevalance of obesity in pregnant women, the prevalence
of obesity-related comorbid conditions complicating pregnancy is also increasing. Obstructive
sleep apnea (OSA) is one of these conditions and characterized by apnea during sleep without
any effort. These apnea episodes and upper airway obstruction lead to hypoxia and maternal
and fetal complications. The diagnosis and management of OSA are similar in pregnant and
nonpregnant women. The data addresseed OSA in pregnant women come from case studies,
case series, small cohort studies, and a few small longitudinal studies.
Keywords: Obstructive sleep apnea; Pregnancy; Obesity
