Abstract

In this study, a review was made on the view of skin and skin diseases in the context of psychoanalytic psychosomatic approach. The aim is to explain the psychogenic roots of skin reactions and diseases and to examine psychoanalytic psychosomatic theories. Along with the psychological function of the skin, diseases such as psoriasis, urticaria, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata and pruritus were discussed. In the view of psychosomatics, the views of different schools and approaches were included, and the concepts of basic depression, allergic object and mentalization were explained. When the literature was examined, it was seen that psychological skin was formed in the prenatal period and gained meaning with the bond established with the primary caregiver. In the psychoanalytic screening, it was found that the archaic mother image, primary object relationship and repressed impulses were involved in the etiology of skin diseases.
