The Use of Wollastonite in Sanitaryware Production
Abstract
At this study, wollastonite samples were collected from abandoned wollastonite mine in the KepsutSerçeören (Balıkesir) area. Wollastonite samples were shattered with labrotory type of jaw crusher. After primary grinding process, a part of gang minerals were removed gropingly. Then, wollastonite in the dimension of (-0.5) mm granule was obtained by consequencly passing from cone crusher and vibratory cup mill. Body which was produced with a specific proportion of this milled wollastonite in place of albite (is used in composition of ceramic sanitaryware) is compatible with thermal dilation and glaze. Industrial application of this composition was tested over product named "wash basin sink". Results were evaluated according to TS 605 standart. As a result from the study it was seen that %2 wollastonite contained prescription was suitable to TS 605 standart and compatible with plant's glaze.
