Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

The Başkent University Faculty of Education Journal (BUJE) adheres to national and international ethical principles, standards, and regulations in its research and publication ethics processes. In this context, the journal considers the publication ethics principles adopted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) at the international level; and at the national level, the TR Dizin criteria and relevant national regulations concerning scientific research and publication ethics.

In accordance with these principles and regulations, all studies submitted to BUJE must be prepared in compliance with scientific research and publication ethics. The responsibility for adhering to ethical principles rests not only with the authors but also with the editors, field editors, and reviewers.ne ve hakemlere de aittir.

 Research Ethics

Manuscripts submitted to BUJE must adhere to ethical principles throughout all stages of research, including planning, execution, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.

In research involving human participants, the principle of voluntariness must be observed, informed consent must be obtained when necessary, participant privacy must be protected, and attention must be paid to the confidentiality of personal data.

In all research, authors must clearly state ethical considerations in the methods section of the manuscript under a specific heading.

Each data collection tool and process must have ethical committee approval. The committee approval must include the approving institution, approval number, and date. This information should be stated on the first or last pages of the manuscript and also in the methods section. The approval document should not be included in the manuscript but should be uploaded by selecting the "Ethics and Approval Document" option during the upload process.

A participant consent form must be used during the data collection phase. This should be stated in the methods section, and the form should be added as an "Appendix" to the end of the manuscript.

 Publication Ethics

BUJE prioritizes scientific quality, academic competence, and ethical responsibility in its publication processes. Submitted manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of originality, scientific contribution, methodological competence, and suitability for the journal's scope. Manuscripts that have been previously published, accepted for publication, or are simultaneously under review in another journal are not considered. The similarity rate of an manuscript must be less than 20% in total from different sources and less than 5% from a single source; otherwise, the manuscript will be returned to the author. After any submission/revision, the article is analyzed for similarity by the BUJE team.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are deemed to have accepted that the manuscript they submit to the journal are original and prepared in accordance with scientific and ethical principles. Authors are responsible for the following:

  • The manuscript has not been previously published and is not under review in another journal.
  • All sources used are cited in accordance with academic rules.
  • Ethical committee approval has been obtained where necessary.
  • Informed consent has been obtained in research involving human participants.
  • Any conflicts of interest and financial support information must be clearly stated.
  • Information and documents requested by the editorial board must be submitted in a timely manner.

Authorship is only valid for individuals who have made a meaningful academic contribution to the work. Listing individuals who have not contributed as authors or excluding those who have contributed is considered an ethical violation.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers should only accept to evaluate manuscripts that fall within their area of ​​expertise.

Reviewers are obliged to adhere to the following principles:

  • Treating the manuscripts they evaluate as confidential documents
  • Not sharing the content of the manuscripts with third parties
  • Not using the information they obtain for personal or institutional gain
  • Refusing to accept evaluation assignments in cases of conflict of interest
  • Presenting their evaluations in a scientific, impartial, constructive, and reasoned manner
  • Completing the evaluation process within the specified time

Reviewer reports may not contain derogatory, personalized, or academically inappropriate language.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors and Field Editors

Editors and field editors conduct the evaluation and publication processes within the framework of scientific quality, impartiality, confidentiality, and ethical compliance principles. Editors and field editors are responsible for the following:

  • Evaluating manuscripts according to scientific criteria
  • Ensuring that the peer review process is conducted fairly and in a timely manner
  • Not taking part in reviews with conflicts of interest
  • Conducting the necessary investigation in cases where ethical violations are suspected
  • Requesting explanations, corrections, or documents from authors when necessary
  • Taking necessary actions in case of significant errors or ethical issues identified in published studies
  • Protecting the confidentiality of author and reviewer information

Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, editors, and field editors are obligated to report any financial, institutional, academic, or personal conflicts of interest that could affect the review and publication processes to the editorial office. In cases of conflicts of interest, the individual concerned may be excluded from the review or decision-making process.

Procedure to Follow in Case of Ethical Violation

If suspicion of an ethical violation arises regarding a manuscript submitted to or published in the journal, the editor will initiate the necessary investigation process. Authors may be asked to provide explanations, additional information, or documents if necessary. Depending on the nature of the violation, the following actions may be taken:

  • Suspension of the evaluation process
  • Rejection of the submission
  • Requesting revisions from the author
  • Publication of the revision text or explanation
  • Retraction of the manuscript
  • Notification to relevant institutions if necessary

Effectiveness and Acceptance

Authors submitting manuscripts to BUJE, reviewers participating in the evaluation process, and editors and field editors involved in the processes are deemed to have accepted the ethical principles and responsibilities stated in this policy.

This policy is implemented to maintain ethical standards in the journal's research and publication processes and may be updated as when necessary.
