Abstract

— Bedrock mapping, stratigraphic studies, and structural geologic analyses combined with
the results of a comprehensive drillin g project have resulted in a clearer understanding of the lithostratigraphy and
structural geology of the lignite-bearing Neogene area of Soma, Western Anatolia. The pre-Neogene basement
consists mainly of Paleozoic graywacke and Mesozoic limestone. The Neogene sequence is composed of the Uppe
Miocene Soma Formation and the Lower Pliocene Deniş Formation. Both formations correspond to two sedimentary
cycles. Pleistocene sediments were deposited during a third cycle. The structural geology of the area has
been accomplished during two tectonic phases. NW-SE oriented horizontal movements produced decollements
in the pre-Neogene basement and the Neogene sedimentary cover during the first tectonic phase. These phenomena
are proved by a large number of mesoscopic structural elements, consisting of slickensides, striae and decollement
surfaces, recorded both in the pre-Neogene basement and the Neogene sedimentary cover. The second
tectonic phase produced the horst-grabenstructure of the area.

LİNYİT İÇEREN SOMA NEOJEN BÖLGESİ, BATI ANADOLU

Abstract

 Ana kayaç haritalaması, stratigrafi etütleri ve yapısal jeoloji analizleriyle birleştirilen geniş kapsamlı
sondaj projesinin sonuçları, Batı Anadolu'da Soma linyitli Neojen alanının litostratigrafi ve yapısal jeolojisini
daha iyi anlamayı sağlamıştır. Neojen öncesi taban başlıca grovak ve Mesozoyik kalkerlerden ibarettir. Neojen
ardalanması Üst Miyosen Soma Formasyonu ile Alt Pliyosen Deniş Formasyonundan meydana gelmiştir. Her iki
formasyon, iki sedimenter devirle ilgilidir. Pleyistosen sedimentler üçüncü bir devirde birikmiştir. Alanın yapısal
jeolojisi iki tektonik evrede tamamlanmıştır. NW-SE doğrultulu yatay hareketler Neojen öncesi taban ve Neojen
sedimenter örtüde, birinci tektonik evre esnasında, kopmalar (decollements) meydana getirmiştir. Bu olayı hem
Neojen öncesi taban hem de Neojen sedimenter örtüde kaydedilen ve fay aynası, ince kristal çizgisi ve kopma yüzeylerinden
oluşan çok sayıda mesoskopik yapı elementi de kanıtlamaktadır. İkinci tektonik evre alanın horstgraben
yapısını oluşturmuştur.
