Medical Documentation and Secretarial from the Perspective of Health Information Management: A Historical Review

Abstract

This article discusses the historical and developmental process of processing medical records. This development is examined in the context of health information management and the profession of Medical Documentation and Secretarial-MDS. Despite its century-long history, this field has not received enough attention in the literature. The history of medical documents dates back to ancient times, with the first examples of medical records found in cave drawings, clay tablets, papyrus parchment in ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece and China. This historical process was shaped by the contributions of famous physicians such as Hippocrates, Galen, Razi and Ibn-Sina. With the development of hospitals as health centers and the use of electronic health records, the field of medical record management has reached an important point with the influence of professional organizations such as AHIMA. MDS, which is a profession related to medical records in our country, is a rapidly developing field of expertise with high training and working standards. MDS professionals are responsible for organizing and archiving medical and administrative records in accordance with international standards and legal requirements. MDS professionals must have the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively perform their duties.

Sağlık Bilgi Yönetimi Perspektifinden Tıbbi Dokümantasyon ve Sekreterlik: Tarihi Bir İnceleme

Abstract

Bu makalede, tıbbi kayıtların işlenmesi ile ilgili tarihi ve gelişimsel süreç konu edilmektedir. Bu gelişim sağlık bilgi yönetimi bakışı ile Tıbbi Dokümantasyon ve Sekreterlik-TDS mesleği çerçevesinde incelenmektedir. Sağlık hizmetlerinin etkin, kaliteli ve verimli bir şekilde sunulması ile ilgili olan bu alan, yaklaşık bir asırlık geçmişe rağmen alan yazında yeterince ilgi görmemiştir. Tıbbi belgelerin tarihi, mağara çizimlerinde, kil tabletlerde, Mısır, Yunanistan ve Çin gibi eski uygarlıklara kadar papirüs parşömenlerinde bulunan tıbbi kayıtların ilk örnekleriyle eski zamanlara kadar uzanmaktadır. Bu tarihi süreç Hipokrat, Galen, Razi ve İbn-i Sina gibi ünlü hekimlerin katkıları ile şekillenmiştir. Hastanelerin sağlık merkezi olarak gelişmesi ve elektronik sağlık kayıtlarının kullanılması, AHIMA gibi mesleki kuruluşların etkisi ile bugün tıbbi kayıt yönetimi alanı önemli bir noktaya gelmiştir. Ülkemizde tıbbi kayıtlar ile ilgili meslek olan TDS eğitim ve çalışma standartları yüksek ve hızla gelişen bir uzmanlık alanıdır. TDS uzmanları, tıbbi ve idari kayıtların uluslararası standartlara ve yasal gerekliliklere bağlı kalarak düzenlenmesi ve arşivlenmesinden sorumludur. TDS profesyonelleri, görevlerini etkili bir şekilde yerine getirmek için gerekli bilgi ve becerilere sahip olmalıdır.
