Posttraumatıc Growth, Copıng Wıth Stress, And Psychologıcal Resılıence Among Marrıed Indıvıduals: An Examınatıon Of Theır Interrelatıonshıps

Abstract

This study examined the relationships among dyadic coping with stress, psychological resilience, and posttraumatic growth in married individuals who had experienced a traumatic event. The sample consisted of 246 married individuals exposed to trauma. Participants completed a Personal Information Form, the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, the Brief Psychological Resilience Scale, and the Dyadic Coping Inventory. Results indicated a statistically significant difference in psychological resilience and the "change in life philosophy" dimension of posttraumatic growth according to employment status. A significant positive correlation was found between posttraumatic growth and dyadic coping with stress, whereas no statistically significant relationship was identified between psychological resilience and posttraumatic growth. Additionally, dyadic coping with stress significantly predicted subdimensions of posttraumatic growth. In conclusion, the absence of a relationship between psychological resilience and posttraumatic growth suggests the influence of underlying or latent variables that should be investigated further. Moreover, viewing psychological resilience as situational and context-dependent may explain the lack of a significant correlation. Future studies employing mixed-methods designs that incorporate participants' subjective perspectives are recommended to enrich the existing literature.
