Profile of Youth Unemployment in Turkey

Abstract

Today the first and foremost economic problem is derived from youth unemployment rates. It is obvious that this problem will cause more serious troubles in the long run in our country where large majority of the population formed by young generation. In this study the phenomenon of the growing unemployment among young people is drawn attention and Turkey\'s youth unemployment profile is investigated. In this context national employment policy applied in our country is evaluated and positive consequences of concentrating on those of which effectiveness is relatively high among these policies such as vocational training, spurring entrepreneurial activities, employment consultancy services are explained. Nevertheless, it is expressed that the national active employment policies applied in Turkey are not sufficent to prevent young unemployment on their own.

Türkiye’nin Genç İşsizlik Profili

Abstract

Günümüzde ekonomik sorunların en başında yüksek genç işsizlik oranları gelmektedir. Nüfusun büyük çoğunluğunu gençlerin oluşturduğu ülkemizde bu problemin uzun vadede çok daha ciddi sorunlara sebep olacağına açıktır. Çalışmada gençler arasında giderek artan işsizlik olgusuna dikkat çekilmiş ve Türkiye’nin genç işsizlik profili incelenmiştir. Bu bağlamda ülkemizde uygulanan ulusal istihdam politikaları değerlendirilmiş ve bu politikalar arasında   etkinliği nispeten yüksek olan mesleki eğitim, girişimcilik faaliyetlerinin teşviki, istihdam danışmanlığı hizmetlerine ağırlık verilmesinin olumlu sonuçlar doğuracağı anlatılmıştır. Buna rağmen  Türkiye’de uygulanan ulusal aktif istihdam politikalarının genç işsizliği önlemede  tek başına yeterli olmadığı ifade edilmiştir.
