AI Policy

For Authors

  • Cerasus Journal of Medicine allows the use of generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies only when such use is transparent, appropriately limited, and subject to direct human supervision.
  • AI systems must not be identified as authors or co-authors. Authorship may be attributed only to human contributors who are capable of assuming full intellectual, scientific, and ethical responsibility for the manuscript.
  • Any use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools in the preparation of a submission must be openly declared by the authors. This declaration should include the name of the tool, the reason for its use, the stage of the manuscript preparation in which it was used, and the way in which the generated output was checked and validated by the authors.
  • Such tools may be used for restricted purposes, including language improvement, grammar correction, and enhancement of readability. However, the use of these technologies does not diminish the authors’ responsibility for the originality, accuracy, proper referencing, and ethical soundness of the manuscript.
  • Where AI tools have been used for purposes such as statistical analysis, data processing, code generation, preparation of tables or figures, image creation, or methodological assistance, this must be not only disclosed but also clearly described in the relevant part of the manuscript.
  • Authors must carefully examine and, when needed, revise all material produced or modified with the assistance of AI. Full responsibility for any inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, biased, or fabricated content remains entirely with the authors.
  • No AI-generated text, figure, table, image, or reference should be incorporated into a manuscript without prior human review and verification. Authors must ensure that the use of AI does not give rise to plagiarism, false references, inaccurate citations, or misleading scientific statements.

For Editors

  • Editors and editorial board members of Cerasus Journal of Medicine are expected to treat all submitted manuscripts and all communication related to those manuscripts as confidential.
  • For this reason, editors must not upload any manuscript, whether in its entirety or in part, or any related material such as reviewer reports, revised files, editorial comments, or decision letters, to generative AI platforms or to external systems for which confidentiality and data security cannot be assured.
  • AI tools must not replace editorial assessment or editorial decision-making. Judgments regarding the scientific merit of a manuscript, its compliance with ethical standards, the interpretation of reviewer comments, and the final publication decision must always be made by the editor.
  • If an editor suspects that an author or reviewer may have acted contrary to the journal’s AI policy, the issue may be handled in accordance with the journal’s ethical procedures, and the publisher may be notified where necessary.

For Reviewers

  • All manuscripts and accompanying documents received for peer review must be regarded as confidential.
  • Reviewers must not submit any part of a manuscript, including its text, data, tables, figures, supplementary material, or their own review report, to any generative AI tool or similar system. Likewise, such tools must not be used to summarize, interpret, paraphrase, analyze, or rewrite manuscript content or peer review comments.
  • This limitation is intended to safeguard the confidentiality of authors, protect intellectual property, and reduce risks involving personal or sensitive information.
  • The peer review process must rely exclusively on the reviewer’s own scientific and academic judgment. All observations, criticisms, recommendations, and conclusions expressed in the review report remain the sole responsibility of the reviewer.
  • If a reviewer notices a possible use of AI that may be inconsistent with the journal’s policy, the reviewer should report this concern to the editor.

Disclosure Requirement

Every manuscript submitted to Cerasus Journal of Medicine must contain a clear disclosure regarding the use of AI. Authors may also explicitly indicate that no AI tools were used. Where AI use is present, the statement must be complete, accurate, and transparent.

Non-Acceptable Uses

  • naming AI as an author or co-author,
  • failing to disclose AI use or providing incomplete disclosure,
  • presenting unverified AI-generated material as scientific fact or evidence,
  • using fabricated or inaccurate references generated by AI,
  • uploading manuscripts, peer review reports, or editorial correspondence to AI platforms,
  • employing AI to create deceptive or misleading data, tables, figures, images, or results.
