Abstract

Eski Yakındoğu’nun kadim uygarlıklarından Mezopotamya ve Mısır’ın mitolojilerinde “bilgelik” kavramı eril karakterdedir. Panteonlarında gölgede kalan iki tanrıça aslında bilgi ve yazıdan sorumlu tutulmuş bu tanrıçaların varlığı bilgelik kavramının dişil yönünü de yansıtmaktadır. Ancak bu denli önemli görevleri bulunan tanrıçalar adına yapılan araştırmaların azlığı ve mevcut olanların da yetersizliği bizleri bu alanda çalışmaya yönlendirmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, “bilgi”, “akıl” ve “yazı”yı temsil eden Mezopotamya’dan Nisaba ve Mısır’dan Seshat adlı iki dişil tanrının mitolojideki konumları, benzerlikleri ve farklılıklarını belirlemek ve bu doğrultuda iki kültür arası etkileşimin boyutunu anlamaktır. Bu bağlamda, tanrıçaların adlarının geçtiği edebi metinler ve görsel buluntular incelenmiş ve değerlendirme yapılmaya çalışılmıştır.

Feminine Wisdom in Near Eastern Mythologies: Nisaba and Seshat

Abstract

In the mythologies of Mesopotamia and Egypt, ancient civilizations of the Ancient Near East, the concept of “wisdom” is masculine. The existence of these two goddesses, who are overshadowed in their pantheons and are actually held responsible for knowledge and writing, also reflects the feminine aspect of the concept of wisdom. However, the scarcity of research on goddesses with such important duties and the inadequacy of the existing ones have led us to work in this field. The aim of this study is to determine the positions, similarities and differences in mythology of two feminine deities, Nisaba from Mesopotamia and Seshat from Egypt, who represent “knowledge”, “reason” and “writing”, and to understand the extent of the interaction between the two cultures in this context. In this context, literary texts and visual findings in which the names of the goddesses are mentioned have been examined and evaluated in detail.
