The assassination attempt in 1935 to Ataturk the founder of Turkish Republic was
detected by the notification of England. The sensitivity of England on the issue was due to
the doubt about assassination attempt’s being realized by a group in its mandated land.
Realization of such an assassination could bear outcomes which would be impossible to
recover in terms of Turkish-English relations. As a result of investigation, the cooperation
between a group under the leadership of Cerkez Ethem with Ali Saip Ursavas who was the
deputy of Urfa, was determined and judicial process began. The news related to ex-caliph
Abdulmecid’s financing the assanissation attemt leaked out. All defendants were acquited
since any concrete evidence were reached in neither judicial nor supreme court stages. In this study, the issues concerning the assassination attempt in 1935 to Ataturk,
the relations between Turks and English in this context, reactions against the assassination
attempt, investigation process and assassination court are to be handled.
