Abstract
Bir İslam araştırmacısının karşılaştığı ilk şeyler arasında, Kur’ân’ın ilk sûresi Fâtiha’dan önce gelen “Bismillâhi er-Raḥmān er-Raḥīm” ifadeleri yer almaktadır. er-Raḥmān ve er-Raḥīm, tekrarlayıp duran iki sıfata benzemektedir ve çevirmenler bu iki sıfatı birbirinden ayıracak uygun bir tercüme bulmakta zorlanmaktadırlar. er-Raḥīm, tanıdık bir isim kalıbına uyan bir Arapça kelime olarak kullanılırken, er-Raḥmān ise hem ilk otoriteler hem de modern ilim adamları tarafından, ödünç alınmış bir kelime olarak kabul görmektedir. Sûrelerin başlarında yer alan besmeleler hariç Kur’an’da 56 defa geçen Raḥmān kelimesi, her defasında Tanrının bir sıfatı ve neredeyse özel bir adı olarak geçmektedir. Bu sıfatın hem Hz. Peygamber’in bilgisine sahip olduğu tek tanrılı dinler hem de Suriye ve Arabistan Çölü’ndeki çok tanrılı dinler tarafından nasıl kullanıldığını incelemek ve kelimenin kökeni hakkında sarih bir açıklama yapmanın mümkün olup olmadığını görmek faydalı olabilir.
