METAVERSE IN TERMS OF FREEDOM AND SECURITY RELATIONSHIP: A STUDY ON THE INNOVATION PERSPECTIVE OF DIGITAL LIFE

Abstract

In the article, we explore how metaverse, an emerging element of digital life, can affect freedom and security practices and bring about changes in their relationships. In this respect, we discuss the renewal of freedom practices by means of the capabilities of science and technology on which digital life is shaped, and the renewal of security practices by these capabilities. Therefore, the research problem adresses the question of how metaverse can create a transformation in the context of the changing conditions of science and technology. Metaverse, in which digital representations of people and objects take place, has a potential for transformation through the interoperability of many technological and social elements. By examining this transformation potential theoretically, this study aims to understand the innovation perspective that is produced by metaverse in terms of freedom and security relationship. In this context, we can state as a goal to create metaverse with security elements that are built through freedom, rather than fear, in the initial stages. In the study, an examination has been made methodologically by means of a literature review on the content. In conclusion, it should be noted that it will be possible to approach the aforementioned goal if the technological and social elements that have begun to work together can overcome the problems related to biopolitical mobility in the digital age.

ÖZGÜRLÜK VE GÜVENLİK İLİŞKİSİ AÇISINDAN METAVERSE: DİJİTAL YAŞAMIN YENİLİK PERSPEKTİFİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Abstract

Makalede dijital yaşamın gelişmekte olan bir unsuru olan metaverse’ün özgürlük ve güvenlik pratiklerini nasıl etkileyebileceği, bunların ilişkisi üzerine ne yönde bir değişim getirebileceği konu edilmektedir. Bu bakımdan özgürlük pratiklerinin dijital yaşamın üzerinde biçimlendiği bilimsel ve teknolojik olanaklar sayesinde uğradığı yenilenmeye ve söz konusu olanakların güvenlik pratiklerini de yenilemesine değinilmektedir. Dolayısıyla bir araştırma problemi olarak metaverse’ün bilimin ve teknolojinin değişmekte olan koşulları bağlamında nasıl bir dönüşüm yaratabileceği sorusu ele alınmıştır. İnsanların ve nesnelerin dijital temsillerinin yer aldığı metaverse, birçok teknolojik ve toplumsal unsurun birlikte işlemesiyle yoluyla bir dönüşüm potansiyeli taşımaktadır. Bu dönüşüm potansiyelinin teorik olarak incelenmesi suretiyle çalışmanın amacı, özgürlük ve güvenlik ilişkisi açısından metaverse’ün üretmekte olduğu yenilik perspektifini anlamaktır. Bu bağlamda metaverse’ü henüz başlangıç aşamasında korkunun değil özgürlüğün inşa edeceği güvenlik unsurlarıyla oluşturabilmek bir hedef olarak belirtilebilir. Çalışmada yöntemsel olarak içeriğe dair literatür taraması yoluyla bir inceleme yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, birlikte işlemeye başlayan teknolojik ve toplumsal unsurlar, biyopolitik hareketliliğin dijital dönem açısından oluşan problemlerini aşabildiği takdirde söz konusu hedefe yaklaşmak mümkün olabilecektir.
