Eu Citizenship As A Common Identity: Theoretical Underpinnings And Main Dimensions

Abstract

This study deals with the emergence of the European Union citizenship as a kind of common political identity and attempts to make a theoretical analysis of this citizenship as well as a dimensional one Regarding the theoretical analysis of the issue there are two aspects to be explained First from a wider perspective a theoretical background is given to clarify the role and impact of identity in international realm Then from a more specified perspective theoretical underpinnings and rationale of the choice of citizenship as a common identity in the EU is unfolded Following these theoretical explanations the EU citizenship is scrutinised referring to its three main dimensions namely political dimension economic dimension and popular symbolic dimension Keywords: EU citizenship common political identity social constructivism ÖZET Bu çalışma Avrupa Birliği vatandaşlığının ortak siyasi bir kimlik olarak ortaya çıkmasını ele almakta ve bu vatandaşlığın hem teorik hem de temel dayanak noktalarına dayalı bir analizini yapmayı amaçlamaktadır Konunun teorik analizi bağlamında açıklanması gereken iki boyutu bulunmaktadır İlk olarak daha geniş bir perspektiften kimlik konusunun uluslararası alandaki rolü ve etkisini ortaya koymak için teorik bir arka plan verilmektedir Ardından daha özel bir perspektifle siyasi kimliğin AB’de ortak kimlik olarak seçilmesinin ardındaki teorik temeller ve gerekçeler ortaya konmaktadır Bu teorik açıklamaların ardından AB vatandaşlığı üç temel dayanağı konumundaki politik ekonomik ve popüler sembolik boyutları açısından incelenmektedir Anahtar sözcükler: AB vatandaşlığı ortak siyasi kimlik sosyal yapısalcılık

Abstract

Bu çalışma Avrupa Birliği vatandaşlığının ortak siyasi bir kimlik olarak ortaya çıkmasını ele almakta ve bu vatandaşlığın hem teorik hem de temel dayanak noktalarına dayalı bir analizini yapmayı amaçlamaktadır. Konunun teorik analizi bağlamında açıklanması gereken iki boyutu bulunmaktadır. İlk olarak, daha geniş bir perspektiften, kimlik konusunun uluslararası alandaki rolü ve etkisini ortaya koymak için teorik bir arka plan verilmektedir. Ardından, daha özel bir perspektifle, siyasi kimliğin, AB’de ortak kimlik olarak seçilmesinin ardındaki teorik temeller ve gerekçeler ortaya konmaktadır. Bu teorik açıklamaların ardından, AB vatandaşlığı, üç temel dayanağı konumundaki politik, ekonomik ve popüler-sembolik boyutları açısından incelenmektedir
