Reletaionship Between Clay Mineral Types and Soil Properties of Bitlis Region Soils
Abstract
In this study, existing of the smectite, illit, vermiculite and kaolinite clay minerals were determined in the research area in consequence of the quantitative mineralogical analyses which were conducted. It is thought that alkaline character of the soils is efficient on existence of the smectites dominantly, and formation of the soils on mica-schist parent material in basin causes the existence of illite commonly in the field. Especially, potasium was observed to reach 800 mg kg-1 levels in some soils where the illite mineral is dominant. Ratio of the clay types in real soil components which are found in clay fractions as a result of quantitative clay analyse are calculated and level of the clay types in soil components was observed low as a result of calculation. Consequently, effect of the parent material on the formation of clay types was deduced in the foreground.
