Bacterial Spot Disease caused by Xanthomonas euvesicatoria causes significant yield losses in pepper. In this study, the effect of seed applications on the biological control of the disease was investigated by using local bacterial antagonists. A total of 488 bacterial colonies were purified from isolations from seven different provinces. By in vitro dual culture test studies, 9 different isolates formed inhibition zones between 3.0 and 9.0 mm. When the biological seed treatments with 9 local antagonists were applied to pepper seeds, seven local antagonistic isolates reduced the disease severity in seedlings by 29-84%. When the effect of these applications on seed germination was also examined, it was determined that the YL 4-3 and Suruç 6-1 strain were successful.
According to diagnostic studies, YL 4-3 and Suruç 6-1 isolates were determined as Bacillus subtilis andBacillus amyloliquefaciens ssp. plantarum, respectively.
