The Publication Principles

1. Dini Arastırmalar seeks to promote quality studies in the fields of religious studies and divinity. The journal, furthermore, goals to provide an avenue for scholars and researchers to publish and discuss their academic works relevant to Philosophy of Religion, Sociology of Religion, Psychology of Religion, History of Religions and Religious Education.

2. Dini Arastırmalar publishes articles that approach the fundamental problems of religious studies from a scientific perspective and propose solutions to these issues.

3. Dini Arastırmalar serves to convey of scientific knowledge to a huge audience interested in religious studies particularly academicians and students in the field of divinity by publishing research articles, translations, case reports, book and symposium reviews on religious studies, as well as divinity.

4. An article submitted for publication in Dini Arastırmalar should be an original research paper that is based upon a research and filling a gap in its subject matter.

5. It should be noted that an article submitted for publication in Dini Arastırmalar should not have previously been published; the papers presented in scholarly meetings may be accepted provided that it is frankly indicated.

6. In Dini Arastirmalar, it is applied the blind review system.

7. All articles are checked by means of a program in order to confirm they are not published before and avoid plagiarism. 

8. Dini Arastirmalar is published twice a year: Winter/December and Summer/June.

Evaluation of the Articles Sent for Publication

1. The articles sent for publication in Dini Arastirmalar are first examined by the Editorial Board of the journal in accordance with the submission guidelines. Academic objectivity and scientific quality are the most significant criteria in the process of assessment of articles. The articles found publishable by the Editorial Board are sent for evaluation of two referees known for their academic reputation in their respective areas. Names of the referees are kept confidential and the judges’ reports are stored for five years. If one of the two judges approves and another disapproves the article’s publication, the article is sent to a third judge or alternatively the Editorial Board may feel confident to make a final decision by analyzing judges’ reports. The authors should pay attention to the suggestions and correction advice of the judges and Editorial Board. If an author does not share the views of the judges or the Editorial Board, he/she may object to decision so long as present a report on the points where he/she does not agree. Articles that are not accepted for publication are not handed back to their authors.

2. Accuracy of facts and all opinions expressed in the articles are the responsibility of the authors, not of the journal or its editor. It may be cited from articles and photos by giving references.

The Language of the Journal

The primary language of the journal is Turkish, however upon the decision of the editorial board articles in other languages such as English and Arabic may also be published as long as they do not extend beyond one-third the length of the journal.

Plagiarism Policy     

All articles are checked by means of a program in order to confirm they are not published before and avoid plagiarism. 

Archiving

Each issue is forwarded to libraries and international indexing institutions within one month after its publication.

Processing Charges

Dini Araştırmalar does not charge any article submission, processing charges, and printing charge from the authors.

Copyright

We request that authors transfer (assign) the copyright in their articles to Dini Araştırmalar Dergisi/ Journal of Religious Studies before publication. This ensures that we have the right to work with, reproduce and to make your article available to readers. This is the case whether you have chosen to publish on a subscription-only or on a gold open access basis. Following the submission of your article we will ask you to electronically submit an Assignment of Copyright form.The assignment of copyright in your article is effective only from the date on which the article is accepted for publication. If you withdraw your article, or if it is not accepted, the transfer does not take effect.

Style Guidelines

The submitted manuscripts should be arranged in the following order of presentation:

1. Title: The title should be chosen from words and terms that best describe the content of the manuscript. The title of an article should not be more than twelve (12) words; it should be bold, capitalized.

2. The Name(s) and address(es) of the author(s): The author(s)’ first name and last name should be bold addresses, on the other hand, should be normal italic letters. The author(s)’ organization(s) where s/he works and full postal and e-mail address(es) should be indicated.

3. Abstract: At the beginning of article there must be an abstract in Turkish. The abstract should clarify the topic clearly and concisely in a minimum of 75 and a maximum of 150 words. The abstract should not include any kinds of bibliographies, figures, notes etc. Leaving one line empty after the body of abstract, the author(s) must present five to eight key-words. At the end of the key-words, the abstract and key-words must be in English.

4. Main Body of the Text: The articles should be written by MS word program, and the chosen characters should be Times New Roman or similar font type. It must be typed as 12 punt with 1.5 spaces on A4 format (29,7x21 cm) paper. There should 2,5 cm free space on the margins and pages should be numbered. The article should not contain more than 7000 words. Passages that need emphasizing in the text should not be bold but in italic.

5. Section Titles: The manuscript should be organized under main titles and sub-titles in order to provide a systematical information transfer and in case of need, these headings may be numbered. The main titles (main sections, references and appendices) should be fully capitalized while the sub-titles should have only their first letters capitalized and should be written in bold characters. The sub-titles should be followed by a colon and the text should continue in the same line following the colon.

6. Tables and Figures: Tables should have numbers and captions. Vertical lines should not be used in the table while horizontal lines should be used only to separate the sub-titles within the table. The table number should be written at the top, fully aligned to the left. The caption should be written in italics, and the first letter of each word should be capitalized. Tables should be placed where they are most appropriate in the text. Figures should be prepared congruent with black-and-white printing. The figure numbers and captions should be centered right below the figures. The numbers of figure should be written in italics and followed by a full-stop while the name of the figure should be written as vertical and its only first letter should be capitalized.

7. Pictures: Pictures should be attached to the articles scanned in high-resolution print quality. The same principles for figures and tables should be followed in naming pictures. The total pages of figures, tables and pictures should not be more than 10 pages (one-third of the article).

8. Quotations and Citations: Quotations should be cited in quotation marks. If the quotation is longer that 5 lines, it should be turned into a block quote with a 1.5 cm indentation on the right and left. It must be typed as 11pt with 1.5 spaces. Citations within the text should be given in parentheses as follows:

(Berkes 1973), (Berkes 1973: 35).

When sources with several authors are cited, the surname of the first author is given and ‘et. al’ is added.

(İçli vd. 1992).

Footnotes and endnotes should be avoided as much as possible. They should only be used for essential explanations and should be numbered automatically. The principles of in-text citation should be used in order to indicate sources in footnotes.

The names of all authors should be given in the list of references in the case of sources with more than one author.

In sources and manuscripts with no publication date, only the names of the authors should be written; works without authors such as encyclopedias, only the name of the source should be given.

While quoting from a quotation, the original source should also be indicated:

“Çağatay (1962) .....” (qtd. in Kasapoğlu 1998).

Personal interviews should be specified within the text by giving the surnames and dates; they should also be cited in the bibliography. In internet references the date of access certainly should be cited and these addresses should also be added to bibliography.

9. References: References should be placed at the end of the text in alphabetical order and they should be written in one of the following molds.If several references by the same author need to be given , then they should be listed according to their publication date; studies by the same author published in the same year should be shown as (1968a, 1968b).

Submission

An article conforming the above mentioned criteria should be sent to the diniarastirmalar98@gmail.com e-mail address. Following the evaluation of the judges, if some corrections asked from the author, the author needs to send a new copy to same addresses within 15 days. During the process of publication, minor changes that have nothing to do with the main structure of the article may be made by the Editorial Board.
