The Time Phenomenon and Its Origin in Classical Arabic Poetry
Abstract
The phenomenon of time is one of the most common motifs in classical Arabic poetry. In this study, the phenomenon of time in ancient Arabic poetry has been examined in various aspects. In the first chapter, the origin of the perception of time in ancient Arab culture was investigated, and it was found that there could be only three theories in this regard. The second chapter discusses how the ancient Arabs related the concept of time with destiny or divinity. In the third chapter, the common words used in the meaning of “time” in classical Arabic poetry are researched in terms of etymology with a scientific method, and some vital information about them is given. The fourth chapter investigated how the concept of time was handled in classical Arabic poetry. In this context, it has been found that the ancient Arab poets generally associated the time with evil concepts. In addition, this chapter has researched how humanity was positioned against the time in ancient poems. Finally, the thoughts of the poets about the nature of time were examined.
