The Issue of Target Population in Religious Communication

Abstract

One of the most important aspects of communication is the listener group. The success or failure of any type of communication, including religious communication, mostly depends on adequate listener analyzing. Thus, the main purpose of this article is to analyze the listeners in religious communication. It basically consists of three parts. The first part examines the listeners/receivers in terms of their demographic characteristics such as age, sex, educational level, occupation, the number of listeners, residential places, political views, and social background. The second part elaborates the listeners from psychological point of views such as receivers’ values, beliefs and attitudes toward the source and message. The third part explains cultural differences and inter-cultural communication. It concludes that a detailed listener analyzing is crucial and important for the success of any kinds of religious communication as much as the source and message itself.
