Meta-Analysis with RevMan

Abstract

In this study, information about the meta-analysis method was given, the steps of the meta-analysis were listed, and information about the content of each step was presented. It is also aimed to introduce the RevMan software package. In this direction, information about the acquisition of the RevMan program, the minimum computer hardware features required for installation, the interfaces of the program, the results and output files are presented. Information on how to add the studies to be included in the meta-analysis study to the RevMan program, how to enter the data of these studies, and how to reach the necessary outputs are presented in detail. Two different sample applications, consisting of a meta-analysis study of the standardized mean difference (Cohen’s d) of ten studies simulated by the authors, and a replication of a previously performed meta-analysis study using the binary data-based odds ratio effect size, were performed in the program. All the steps on how to do the meta-analysis study through the RevMan program are explained in order. In addition, the RevMan software package was compared with other meta-analysis software packages, and the differences between them were stated. The results of the sample applications (mean effect sizes, heterogeneity test results, and publication bias results) are given. It is determined as an advantage that the RevMan program allows working without the need for a word processing program, is free, and is easy to analyze.
