Eğilimler ve Yönelimler: Son 10 Yılda “The Journal Of Special Education” Dergisinde Yayımlanan Çalışmaların İncelenmesi

Academic journals, prepared for a specific purpose, contribute to disseminating and transferring knowledge and developments to future generations. Periodically evaluating and analyzing the content of these scientific journals can be an essential tool to understand the development process of the journals and contribute to the readers’ ability to follow the scientific developments in the relevant field. Based on this need, the research aims to have an idea about the current developments in special education by reviewing the articles published in the last decade (2013-2022) in “The Journal of Special Education” one of the prestigious journals in the discipline of special education. The study also aimed to examine the published studies, to determine the tendencies of the research topics in special education, and to obtain information about the trends in research methods. The study used a narrative review as a research design. The findings show that the journal publishes four issues each year and includes an average of 20 studies in each issue. A total of 204 studies were conducted with participants with and without special needs participants in the last 10 years. Many participants with special needs were individuals with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability, and a considerable of the individuals were between the ages of 7 and 18. Most of the participants without special needs were teachers. Almost all of the studies are American researchers’/authors’ publications. The findings also show that studies conducted with quantitative research designs are mostly published in the journal, and systematic instruction studies are extensive. The findings are discussed, and suggestions for further research are made.

Belli bir amaca yönelik yayımlanan bilimsel dergiler, üretilen bilginin yayılmasına ve gelecek kuşaklara aktarılmasına katkı sağlamaktadır. Buradan hareketle bu araştırma, özel eğitim alanında saygın dergilerden olan “The Journal of Special Education” dergisinde son 10 yılda (2013-2022) yayımlanan makaleleri gözden geçirerek, özel eğitimdeki güncel gelişmeler hakkında fikir sahibi olmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada ayrıca, yayımlanan çalışmaları incelemek, özel eğitimdeki araştırma konularının yönelimini belirlemek ve araştırma yöntemlerine ilişkin eğilimler hakkında bilgi sahibi olmak amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma yöntemi olarak, anlatı derlemesi kullanılmış ve veriler içerik analizi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, derginin her yıl dört sayı çıkardığını ve her sayıda ortalama 20 çalışmaya yer verdiğini, dergide son 10 yıl içerisinde özel gereksinimi olan ve olmayan bireylerle yürütülmüş 204 çalışmanın yayımlandığını, yayımlanan çalışmaların tamamına yakınının Amerikalı araştırmacıların yayınları olduğunu, dergide daha çok nicel araştırma desenleriyle yürütülen çalışmaların yayımlandığını ve öğretim çalışmalarının ağırlıklı olduğunu göstermektedir. Bulgular, alanyazınla tartışılarak ileri araştırmalara yönelik öneriler sunulmaktadır.
