Öğretmen Adaylarının Öğretmenlik Mesleği İmajı Algılarının Çeşitli Değişkenler Açısından İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışma öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleği imajına ilişkin algılarını farklı değişkenler (cinsiyet, sınıf düzeyi ve bölüm) açısından incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2023-2024 eğitim-öğretim yılında Gazi Üniversitesi Gazi Eğitim Fakültesinde çeşitli bölümlerde (Müzik Öğretmenliği, Resim Öğretmenliği, Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği, Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliği İngilizce Öğretmenliği, Fizik Öğretmenliği, Kimya Öğretmenliği) öğrenim gören 199 kız 138 erkek olmak üzere ve her sınıf düzeyinden toplam 337 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada 2019 yılında Özgenel, Işık ve Bahat tarafından geliştirilmiş olan, 19 maddeden oluşan ve Kişisel Özellikler, Mesleki Özellikler, Toplumsal Statü, Mesleki Tercih olmak üzere dört alt faktörü bulunan Öğretmenlik Mesleği İmaj Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları, öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleği imajına ilişkin algı düzeyleri ölçeğinde en yüksek oranda Öğretmenlik Mesleği İmaj Ölçeğinin “Mesleki Özellikler” boyutunda yer alan ve “Öğretmenlik, sorumluluk gerektiren bir meslektir” ifadesine katıldıklarını, en düşük düzeyde ise “Toplumsal Statü” boyutunda “Öğretmenler, toplum tarafından önemsenmektedir” ifadesine katıldıklarını göstermiştir. Araştırmada dikkat çekici bir diğer sonuç öğretmen adaylarının öğretmenlik mesleği imajına ilişkin algı düzeylerinin, ölçeğin “Kişisel Özellikler alt boyutunda ve Mesleki Özellikler alt boyutunda, cinsiyete göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaşırken, sınıf düzeyi ve bölüme göre farklılaşmaması olmuştur.

Examining the Perceptions of Teacher Candidates About the Image of the Teaching Profession in Terms of Various Variables

Abstract

This study aimed to examine pre-service teachers' perceptions of the image of the teaching profession in terms of different variables (gender, grade level, and department). The study group consisted of 199 female and 138 male teachers from various departments (Music Teaching, Art Teaching, Science Teaching, Social Studies Teaching, English Language Teaching, Physics Teaching, Chemistry Teaching) at Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, in the 2023-2024 academic year. The Teaching Profession Image Scale, which was developed by Özgenel, Işık, and Bahat in 2019 and consists of 19 items and four sub-factors: Personal Characteristics, Professional Characteristics, Social Status, and Professional Preference, was used in the study. The research results showed that prospective teachers' highest level of agreement was with the statement "Teaching is a profession that requires responsibility" in the "Professional Characteristics" dimension of the Teaching Profession Image Scale, and lowest level of agreement with the statement "Teachers are valued by society" in the "Social Status" dimension. Another noteworthy result of the research was that prospective teachers' levels of perception of the image of the teaching profession differed statistically significantly by gender in the "Personal Characteristics" and "Professional Characteristics" sub-dimensions of the scale, but did not differ by grade level or department.
