Abstract

Digital parenting refers to the competencies that parents should have to support their children's safe and appropriate use of digital environments. The aim of this study is to evaluate a mobile application developed for digital parenting in terms of engagement, functionality, aesthetics and information presentation. The study was conducted with a group of 10 parents, each of whom had at least one child. In the study, quantitative data were collected through the Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS), for which the Turkish version's validity and reliability were conducted by Özaydın Aydoğdu, Yıldız Durak, and Akgün (2023), based on the original scale developed by Stoyanov, Hides, Kavanagh, Zelenko, Tjondronegoro, and Mani (2016). Qualitative data were obtained through explanations requested from the participants regarding the ratings made as inadequate and in need of improvement for the items on the 5-point Likert-type scale containing four sub-dimensions. The study's findings revealed that at least half of the participants, ranging from 50% to 90%, rated all aspects of the mobile application's engagement, functionality, aesthetics, and information, as "Excellent," while at least one-third of them, between 30% and 40%, rated them as "Good." Additionally, qualitative data obtained from a limited number of negative evaluations have provided valuable recommendations for application improvement. These results demonstrate that the developed mobile application was highly positively evaluated by the participants.
