PSİKİYATRİ HEMŞİRELİĞİ EĞİTİMİNDE YENİLİKÇİ BİR UYGULAMA: STANDART HASTALAR

Year 2016, Volume: 9 Issue: 2, 61 - 66, 01.05.2016

Abstract

An Innovative Practice in Psychiatric Nursing Education: Standardized Patients

Year 2016, Volume: 9 Issue: 2, 61 - 66, 01.05.2016

Abstract

In psychiatric nursing education, teaching and evaluation is a difficult processand various methods such as presentation, video watching,
gamefication are used in nursing schools in order to equip students with nursing interventions. In addition to this, before first contact with the
mentally detoriated individual, students do not know what is expected from them and what they should do. Today, increased importance
given to the patient safety and improvement works in the healthcare services which are developed in accordance with there quirement of
economical healthcare applications, incerasing patient population and the difficulties that nursing student encounter in clinical environments
have guided nursing instructors towards searching for evidence based innovative teaching methods. One of these innovative teaching
methods is standardized patient application. Standardized patient application is an innovative and popular education method in which
educator plays a role which facilitates learning, learner learns in a more controlled and motivated manner and learner centred, clinical and
theoretical knowledge and experience is combined. Use of this application in psychiatric nursing is very common in the world, but it is quite
new in our country. For that reason, in this compilation, it is aimed that the current literature on standardized patient application, which is
used in equipping the student with the applications in which abstract skills such as psychiatric nursing are in majority, are discussed.
