RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHILOSOPHY AND RELIGION IN THOUGHT OF ELMALILI HAMDI YAZIR

Abstract

This article considers the Elmalili Hamdi Yazır’s opinions about the relationship between religion and philosophy. According to him there is no conflict between religion and philosophy. On the contrary, he detected that a holistic view is complementary of both of them. While vehicle of philosophy is mind, the other’s is faith but faith and reason never conflict when they are released. They only express to be representatives of different formats. In this context, by especially the modernization project the progress of Western thought in favor of knowledge and against ontology brought about opening of the distance between knowledge and values. Later on the effectiveness of ideology has deepened the distance. Elmalili Hamdi Yazır asserted that the reconciliation between religion and philosophy and the complementary dimensions formed especially in the context of Islamic thought through union of knowledge, value and existence
