A PROPOSAL FOR ACTIVITIES TO BE USED IN TEACHING OF FIGURATIVE EXPRESSIONS IN FOREING LANGUAGE

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to propose an alternative process to the teaching of figurative expressions in English, and determine the effects of the mentioned process. The pre-test re-test experimental design approach is used with 22 participants who are 2nd year undergraduate students of Ankara University Faculty of Letters, Department of Linguistics. The data collected through pre-test and re-test are analysed using SPSS with paired samples t-test. The findings collected at the end of the teaching process show positive effects of the proposed process and that the participants can understand and use the aimed linguistic features

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, İngilizce imgesel anlamlı dil öğelerinin öğretimine yönelik alternatif bir öğretim süreci sunmak ve sunulan bu sürecin öğrenciler üzerinde ne gibi öğrenme davranışları oluşturduğunu ortaya koymaktır. Örneklemini Ankara Üniversitesi Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya Fakültesi Dilbilim Bölümü 2. sınıf lisans öğrencilerinin oluşturduğu bu çalışma, kontrol grupsuz ön-test son-test deneysel deseni içermektedir. Ön-test ve son-test verileri SPSS programında ilişkili örneklemler için t-testi ile çözümlenmiştir. Öğretim süreci sonunda elde edilen bulgular, önerilen sürecin öğrencilerde olumlu etkiler yarattığını ortaya koymakta ve bu süreçte öğretilmesi hedeflenen dil öğelerini anlayabildiklerini ve kullanabildiklerini göstermektedir
