Abstract

Bu çalışmada Millî Mücadele dönemi boyunca Kütahya’da yaşanan gelişmeler, ABD ve İngiltere basınına yansıyan yönleriyle ele alınmıştır. Dolayısıyla ABD ve İngiltere basınından yararlanılmak suretiyle 1918-1922 yılları arasında Kütahya’da yaşananların okuyucunun bilgisine sunulması çalışmanın ana gayesidir. Bu araştırmada karşılaştırmalı içerik analizi yöntemi tercih edilmiştir. Buna göre öncelikle araştırma konusuyla ilgili haber ve yazılar tespit edilmiş, ardından bu haber ve yazılar objektiflik ilkesi göz önünde bulundurulmak suretiyle tasnif edilmiştir. Kütahya’daki gelişmeleri olduğu gibi okuyucuya sunma gayreti içinde olduğu ve çoğunluğunun haber ajanslarına ait olduğu anlaşılan yazılar öncelikli olarak değerlendirilmiş, yanlış bilgiler içerdiği aşikâr olan haberler değerlendirme dışında tutulmuştur. Değerlendirme kapsamına alınması kararlaştırılan haber ve yazılar, yerli kaynaklardaki bilgilerle karşılaştırıldıktan sonra çalışma kapsamına alınmıştır. Çalışmanın önemli olduğu düşünülen bulguları, Kütahya ile ilgili araştırmaların literatürüne katkıda bulunulması ve dönemin iki önemli ülkesi olan ABD ile İngiltere ülkelerine ait basın organlarının Kütahya’daki gelişmeleri okuyucularına sunum şekillerinin ortaya çıkarılmasıdır. ABD ve İngiltere basın organlarının, Millî Mücadele dönemi boyunca Kütahya’da yaşanan gelişmelere önemli oranda yer verdiği tespit edilmiştir.

Kütahya in the us and England Press During the War of Independence

Abstract

In this paper, the developments in Kütahya during the War of Independence are discussed with their aspects reflected in the US and British press. Therefore, the main purpose of the study is to present the events in Kütahya between 1918-1922 to the information of the reader by using the US and British press. In this study, the comparative content analysis method was preferred. First, news and articles related to the research topic were determined, and then this news and articles were classified by considering the principle of objectivity. The articles, which are understood to present the developments in Kütahya to the reader as they are, and which are understood to belong to the news agencies, were evaluated primarily, and the news that contained false information was excluded from the evaluation. The news and articles decided to be included in the evaluation were included in the study after they were compared with the information from local sources. The study's findings, which are considered important, contribute to the literature of research about Kütahya and reveal how the press organs of the two important countries of the period, the US and England, presented the developments in Kütahya to their readers. It has been determined that the press organs of the US and England gave a significant place to the developments in Kütahya during the War of Independence.
