OMPARISON OF DISTANCE EDUCATION BEFORE THE PANDEMIC AND FACE TO FACE EDUCATION PROCESS AFTER THE PANDEMIC

Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare and evaluate science lessons conducted remotely during the pandemic with science lessons conducted face-to-face after the pandemic by teachers. The goal is to reveal the views of science teachers on the impact of remotely conducted science lessons during the pandemic on the face-to-face education after the pandemic. This research utilized a case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The participants of the study are 12 science teachers working in middle schools located in the central districts, towns, and villages connected to the province of Hatay. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using content analysis. According to the data obtained from the study, most teachers stated that the remote education process affected their technological and pedagogical competencies, which in turn affected the face-to-face education process after the pandemic. Furthermore, teachers working in village schools mentioned experiencing technical difficulties such as internet and computer issues, indicating that the lack of efficiency in remote science lessons affected the subsequent face-to-face education negatively. Additionally, a significant number of teachers expressed the opinion that the current science curriculum should be updated to include remote education, and there is a need for revision and remedial education programs focusing on science topics during the remote education process.

PANDEMİ ÖNCESİ UZAKTAN EĞİTİM İLE PANDEMİ SONRASI YÜZ YÜZE EĞİTİM SÜRECİNİN KARŞILAŞTIRILMASI

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, pandemi sürecinde uzaktan eğitimde gerçekleştirilen fen bilimleri dersi ile pandemi sonrasında yüz yüze eğitim sürecindeki fen bilimleri derslerinin öğretmenler tarafından karşılaştırılıp değerlendirilmesidir. Bu çalışma ile fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin, pandemi sürecinde uzaktan gerçekleştirilen fen bilimleri derslerinin pandemi sonrası gerçekleşen yüz yüze eğitime olan etkilerine dair görüşleri ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan durum çalışması kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını, Hatay iline bağlı merkez, ilçe ve köylerinde yer alan ortaokullarda görev yapmakta olan 12 fen bilimleri öğretmenleri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ile toplanmış ve içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmadan elde edilen verilere göre öğretmenlerin çoğu uzaktan eğitim sürecinin teknolojik ve pedagojik alan yeterliliklerini etkilediğini bu durumun da pandemi sonrasındaki yüz yüze eğitim sürecine yansıdığını belirtmiştir. Ayrıca köy okullarında görev yapan öğretmenler zaman zaman internet ve bilgisayar gibi teknik sıkıntılar yaşadıklarını dolayısıyla uzaktan eğitim sürecindeki fen dersinden yeterince verim alınamamasının sonrasında gerçekleştirilen yüz yüze eğitimi olumsuz etkilediğini belirtmişlerdir. Bununla birlikte öğretmenlerin büyük bir kısmı mevcut fen bilimleri ders programının uzaktan eğitimi de kapsayacak şekilde güncellenmesi gerektiğini, uzaktan eğitim sürecindeki fen bilimleri konularına yönelik tekrar ve telafi eğitim programlarının gerçekleştirilmesi gerektiği yönünde görüş belirtmişlerdir.
