In this study, it was researched that the effect of region difference and adhesive type on formaldehyde emission of plywood panels manufactured from alder. For this reason, alder logs taken from Trabzon, Giresun and Artvin regions were used as tree species. Two different adhesive types (urea and melamine urea formaldehyde) were used in three-ply plywood manufacturing. pH values and density of the solid alder woods were determined according to TAPPI t m-45 and TS EN 323, respectively. Formaldehyde emission of plywood panels was determined according to EN 717-3.
In the result of that it was shown the formaldehyde emission values of plywood panels manufactured with UF resin were higher than those of the test panels manufactured with MUF resin. Plywood panels manufactured from alder grown in Giresun/Espiye region gave the best formaldehyde emission values. It was determined that pH and density varied according to region difference of wood were an effect on formaldehyde emission.
