Obezite ile Diş Çürüğü ve Dental Erozyon Arasındaki İlişkilerin Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Evaluation of the Relation between Obesity and Dental Caries and Erosion

Abstract

Nowadays, in spite of the popularity among healthy
dietary habits and sports activities, the prevalence of obesity, which is an
eating disorder, has increased. As oral health is an inseparable part of
systemic health, it is inevitable that obesity, which causes chronic
inflammation in many organs, would not affect oral health. In studies
investigating both obesity and dental caries, a definite relationship has not
mentioned due to the contradictory results arising from the differences in the
methodologies. Although the carbohydrate-rich diet, as a common etiological
factor, is thought to increase the prevalence of both obesity and dental
caries, it is stated that they had a multifactorial interaction with the
dispositional factors such as socioeconomic status, the national economy and
television watching habits. In recent years, due to the increase in the
prevalence of dental erosion, studies have started to examine obese individuals
in terms of dental erosion. In this review, obesity was aimed to be
investigated with the support of literature. Besides, it has revealed the
necessity of physicians and dentists working together especially in the groups
of obese individuals.
