IDENTITY OF CITIES AND CITIZENS; THE CASE OF IZMIR

Abstract

In our days, the vision of social and economic systems under the process of globalization, increasingly taken in concern, the solution to the problems of cities. Specially, identity of cities and identity of citizenship with in the corcern of information socities democratic and social values has been shaping the process of development which has been deeply discussed with social scientists since 1980’s. All the social scientists’ discussion within their urban and citizens identities, impressed the knowledge on the urban structure, culture, using of urban area and the politics of transnational cities In this study, in the shaping of urban identities, it has been discussed within the concern of social, economic and cultural changing. How urbans effectted within the concern of the development of transnational cities in historical process, is discussed with the case of İzmir.
