WRITING RULES

Experimental and Applied Medical Sciences accepts original research articles, reviews, case reports, and letters to the editor in the fields of medicine and health sciences. Submission of a manuscript implies that the work has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The decision regarding the publication of manuscripts submitted to Experimental and Applied Medical Sciences will be based on the Editorial Board's evaluation of the study's significance and originality.

All authors of the manuscripts submitted to the journal (corresponding author and co-authors) must obtain an individual ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) number from http://orcid.org and provide this number on the title page of the manuscript. The corresponding author must add all authors to the DergiPark system.

Typing and Formatting Rules

1. General Font and Size

• Manuscripts must be written electronically in "Microsoft Word" format, using "Times New Roman" font, 12-point font size, and double line spacing.
• Manuscripts must be written in English.
• Abstracts must be provided in both Turkish and English.
• Page margins must be 2.5 cm on both sides, and the text must be justified. Words must not be hyphenated at the end of lines.
• Pages must be numbered consecutively.

The manuscript should be ordered as follows, with each section starting on a new page:

• Turkish Abstract and Keywords
• English Abstract and Keywords
• Main Text (1. Introduction, 2. Materials and Methods, 3. Results, 4. Discussion, 5. Conclusion, 6. Acknowledgments)
• References

For original research articles, necessary ethics committee approvals must be obtained, and the ethics committee approval number and date must be stated in the manuscript. The plagiarism report of the study must be uploaded, and the plagiarism rate must not exceed 20%. When uploading your manuscript to the system, use the corresponding author's first and last name as the file name.

TITLE PAGE

The title page should include the following elements in order:

• Titles
• Author Information
• Author Contributions
• Conflict of Interest
• Ethics Committee Approval
• Funding
• Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

- Titles

Turkish and English titles must be provided separately. Only the first letter of the titles should be capitalized (Sentence case).

- Author Information

• Author names must be written in 10-point and bold.
• Author addresses must be uniform, in 10-point, and provided in the following order: University, Faculty, Department, City, Country.

Example: Gaziantep Islam Science and Technology University, School of Medicine, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy Program, Gaziantep, Türkiye.

• The ORCID number, e-mail address, and contact phone numbers (a GSM phone number must be provided) of all authors must be included.
• The corresponding author must be specified and marked with an asterisk (*).

- Author Contributions

The contributions of all authors to the manuscript (study hypothesis, design, management, data collection/processing/analysis/interpretation, literature search, provision of information/equipment, writing, reviewing, and others) must be stated individually on this page. When adding author contributions, do not write the full names of the authors; use only their initials.

Example: A.B: Study hypothesis, management; D.T: Data collection/processing, etc.

- Conflict of Interest

Potential conflicts of interest and financial support of all authors, whether directly related to the subject of the manuscript or not, must be disclosed individually and stated on the title page.

- Ethics Committee Approval

In cases involving human subjects or the use of animals, the name of the Hospital Ethics Committee or Research Ethics Committee, along with the approval number and date of decision must be stated on the Title Page. The name of the Ethics Committee must be blinded in the methods section. (See: Methods)

- Funding

If the study was funded by an institution/organization, it should be stated as: "This study was funded by XXXXXXXXXXXX."

Additionally:

• Abbreviations must not be used in the title.
• The word count of the abstract and the main text (excluding abstract, tables, and references) must be added to this page.
• If the study has been previously presented as a paper at any scientific meeting or if its abstract has been published, it must be stated on this page.

MAIN TEXT

The main text must consist of the following sections:

• Introduction
• Materials and Methods
• Results
• Discussion
• Conclusion
• Acknowledgments

The use of excessive abbreviations in the text should be avoided. All abbreviated terms must be defined in parentheses at their first mention in the text. Terms abbreviated in the abstract section must be redefined with their full forms at their first mention in the main text. Abbreviations must consist of standard expressions.

Abstract

The abstract text and title must be prepared in both Turkish and English. The abstracts in both languages must not exceed 250 words. The Turkish abstract must consist of "Amaç", "Yöntem", "Bulgular", "Sonuç", and "Anahtar Kelimeler"; the English abstract must consist of "Objective", "Methods", "Results", "Conclusion", and "Keywords". The Turkish and English abstracts and keywords must be identical. Case report abstracts must be prepared as a single paragraph without headings. Abbreviations should be avoided in the abstract as much as possible.

Keywords must consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 words. Keywords must be selected from the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings, http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html) list. At the same time, your keywords must be included in the Turkish Science Terms (http://www.bilimterimleri.com).

Introduction

The subject, objective, and literature background of the study must be stated.

Methods

The research methods and tools used in this section must be presented with clear and concise explanations along with references. The source of all equipment must be specified as supplier, city, state/country. The chemical name of any drug must precede its trade name. In articles describing animal experiments, the species, strain, sex, age, supplier, and number of animals used must be specified. An ethical statement regarding the use of animals or details regarding ethical approvals, permissions, and the selection of human subjects must be clearly stated.

*** The name of the Ethics Committee must only be included on the title page and must be blinded in the methods section.**

The name of the Hospital Ethics Committee or Research Ethics Committee must be clearly stated on the title page, but its name must be blinded as XXXX Ethics Committee in the Methods section.

Statistical analysis must be stated as a subheading at the end of this section. Statistical measurements of variation in the text, figures, and tables must be explained. All subscripts, superscripts, and unusual characters must be specified.

Results

This section must present the findings of the study. Data should preferably be presented clearly in tables or figures. The number of tables must not exceed 5, and the number of figures must not exceed 3.

Discussion

In this section, the conclusions drawn from the findings and the existing literature must be discussed and interpreted together. Statistical results used in the findings section should not be repeated here. At the end of the discussion section, limitations must be stated under the subheading "Limitations".

Conclusion

This section must be a single paragraph. The discussion should include the contribution of the results to the field and the clinical message.

Acknowledgments

Individuals and organizations supporting the study can be thanked in this section.

References

References must be arranged according to the 'Vancouver' style and numbered in the order of their appearance in the text. If multiple and consecutive references are cited, they should be written as 15-18. Unpublished observations and personal communications should be avoided. Multiple authors must be separated by commas. If there are more than three authors, ", et al." must be added without a comma after the third author for journal and book references. If a chapter in a book is cited and this chapter has multiple authors, the title of the book and the chapter number must be specified, the first three authors of the chapter must be written, and ", et al." must be added for the subsequent authors. Journal names must be abbreviated as used in Index Medicus. The abbreviation used for our journal is "EAMS".

The number of references must not exceed 40 for research articles, 20 for case reports, 100 for reviews, and 10 for technical notes/letters to the editor.

TABLES - GRAPHS - FIGURES - IMAGES

Figures and tables must not be submitted as separate files; they must be placed immediately after the relevant section cited in the text.

Tables must be placed vertically (portrait orientation) in the text. Tables must be borderless, have single line spacing, and have no column spacing. Mean and Standard Deviation values (X±SD) provided in the tables must be in the same column. Percentage values (n(%)) must be in the same column in tables. Decimals must be given to 2 decimal places in the text and tables. All Graphs, Figures, and Images used in the text must be named "Figure". Tables must be named "Table". All figures and tables used must be mentioned in the text. Each figure and table in the manuscript must be cited within the flow of the text. They must be numbered according to their order of appearance in the text and given a short title.

Titles of tables must be written above the table, and titles of figures must be written below the figure. Abbreviations and statistical methods used in the tables must be explained at the bottom. Figures must be at least 600 dpi in resolution. For images where the patient's identity can be determined, the signed consent of the patient or their legal representative must be attached to the submission letter; otherwise, the names or eyes of the respective person(s) must be covered with a "black bar/band".

Conflict of interest and financial support must be disclosed at the time of submission. Authors are obliged to notify the journal of additional conflicts of interest or financial support that may arise prior to the publication date of their articles. All authors must individually disclose all potential conflicts of interest and financial support, whether directly related to the subject of their manuscript or not.

MANUSCRIPT TYPES

Reviews

Reviews falling within the scope of the journal will be evaluated. For reviews, it is sufficient to have Introduction and Discussion sections as the title layout. Reviews that include headings such as Materials and Methods or Ethical Approval are also acceptable but not mandatory. The abstract section should also be organized in accordance with the headings in the main text. (For example, if there is a Materials and Methods heading in the main text, this heading should also be added to the abstract).

Case Reports

Rare and significant clinical experiences should be presented. It includes introduction, case, and discussion sections.

Letters to the Editor

The letter should not exceed 1000 words (or 750 words with one table or figure) and a maximum of 10 references. Letters are published upon the decision of the Editorial Board. Authors must contact the Editorial Board before submitting their letters (https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/eams.). Letters containing comments on published articles must be submitted within six months of publication; the letter will be sent to the author for a reply (if necessary).

Scientific Letters

These manuscripts are preliminary studies aimed at announcing clinically significant data and discoveries. The text is not divided into sections; it consists of a maximum of 1000 words, one table or figure, and a maximum of 10 references. Letters are published by the decision of the Editorial Board. Authors must contact the Editorial Board before submitting their letters (https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/eams.).

Manuscripts are only considered for publication provided that they are original, not under consideration simultaneously by another journal, or have not been previously published. Direct quotations, tables, or illustrations that have extracted from any copyrighted material must be accompanied by written authority for their use from the copyright owners. All manuscripts are subject to review by the editors and referees. Deserving to be publishing is based on significance, and originality of the material submitted. If any manuscript is considered to deserve publishing, it may be subject to editorial revisions to aid clarity and understanding without changing the data presented.

Experimental and Applied Medical Science strictly adheres to the principles set forth by “Helsinki Declaration” whose web address is below.

Editorial Board declares that all reported or submitted studies conducted with “human beings” should be in accordance with those principles.

Manuscripts presenting data obtained from a study design conducted with human participants must contain affirmation statements in the Material and Methods section indicating approval of the study by the institutional ethical review committee and "informed consent" was obtained from each participant. Also all manuscripts reporting experiments in which laboratory animals have been used should include an affirmation statement in the Material and Methods section validating that all animals have received human care in compliance with the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals” whose web address is below and reveal approval by the institutional ethical review board.

If there is a commercial relation that contributes to the study process or there is an institution that provides financial support for the study; the authors must declare that they have no commercial relationship with the commercial product, drug, company used, or what kind of relationship (consultant or any other agreement) they have, if any.

Processing and publication are free of charge with the journal. No fees are requested from the authors at any point throughout the evaluation and publication process. All manuscripts must be submitted via the online submission system, which is available at https://dergipark.org.tr/tr/pub/eams. The journal guidelines, technical information, and the required forms are available on the journal’s web page.

All expenses of the journal are covered by the Medical Faculty of Gaziantep Islam, Science and Technology University. Potential advertisers should contact with the Editorial Office of the journal. Advertisement images are published only upon the Editor-in-Chief’s approval.

Statements or opinions expressed in the manuscripts published in the journal reflect the views of the author(s) and not the opinions of the Medical Faculty of Gaziantep Islam Science and Technology University, editors, editorial board, and/or publisher; the editors, editorial board, and publisher disclaim any responsibility or liability for such materials.

All manuscripts involving a research study must be evaluated in terms of biostatistics and it must be presented altogether with appropriate study design, analysis and results. p values must be given clearly in the manuscripts. Other than research articles, reviews, case reports, letters to the editor, etc. should also be original and up to date, and the references and, if any, their biostatistical parts should be clear, understandable and satisfactory.

The publication language of the journal is English. In addition, the abstract part of the article must be uploaded in both Turkish and English. Manuscripts should be evaluated by a linguist before being sent to the journal.

According to the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works, which was first published in the Official Gazette with the law number 5846 on 13/12/1951, whose web address is below, and on which subsequently various changes have been made or novel parts have been added in time, all kinds of publication rights of the articles accepted for publication belong to the institution that published the journal. However, the thoughts and suggestions in the articles are entirely the responsibility of the authors.
