Michel Foucault’nun İktidar Türleri Çerçevesinde Bir Distopya: “1984”

Öz

Bu çalışma distopya edebiyatının güncel kaygılarını umursayan gözü pek eseri 1984’ü, Michel Foucault’nun düşünce çerçevesinin odak noktası olan “iktidar” kavramının türlerinden disiplinci ve düzenleyici iktidar türleri çerçevesinde değerlendirmek amacıyla yazılmıştır. Foucaultcu iktidarı genel anlamda üç katmanda incelemek mümkündür. Üç tür iktidar alanı üzerinde somut göstergeler arayan Foucault, hukuksal, disiplinci ve düzenleyici olmak üzere, iktidar, dönemleri ve kavramlarını geniş çerçevede ortaya koymuştur. Bu anlamda hukuksal iktidarı Klasik Çağ’ın monarşik yapıda; disiplinci iktidarı toplumları belirli stratejilerle toplu biçimde yönlendiren, aynı zamanda kapatma, dışlama, gözetleme ve normalleşme gibi iktidarın somutlaştığı bir yapıda; son olarak düzenleyici iktidarı ise bireylerin yaşam standartlarını düzenlemeye ve devamlılığa yönelik politikaları içeren bir yapıda bulmak mümkündür. George Orwell ‘1984’ distopyasında Büyük Birader’in her yeri kaplayan fakat belli bir yeri olmayan baskıcı gücünü kurgulamıştır. 1984, insanların yaşamlarının neredeyse her anlamda kontrol altına alınışını anlatmaktadır. Makalede, iktidarın şekillendirdiği toplum yapısı ve birey, 1984’ün ortaya koyduğu kurgusal alan ile değerlendirilmiştir.

A DYSTOPIA WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF MICHEL FOUCAULT'S TYPES OF POWER: “1984”

Abstract

This study has been written to evaluate 1984, a bold work of dystopian literature that addresses contemporary concerns. The evaluation focuses on disciplinary and regulatory types of power within the framework of Michel Foucault's concept of 'power,' which forms the core of his thought. Foucauldian power can generally be analyzed in three layers. By identifying concrete indicators for each type, Foucault categorizes power into legal, disciplinary, and regulatory frameworks, presenting these periods and concepts within a comprehensive structure. In this sense, legal power can be observed in the monarchical structure of the Classical Age. Disciplinary power emerges in structures that guide societies collectively through strategies such as closure, exclusion, surveillance, and normalization, while regulatory power focuses on policies designed to regulate and maintain the living standards of individuals.In his dystopia '1984', George Orwell fictionalized the oppressive power of Big Brother, which is all-pervasive but has no specific location 1984 describes the control of people's lives in almost every sense. This article evaluates the structure of society and the individual as shaped by power within the fictional space created by 1984.
