SCIENCE TEACHERS’ VIEWS ABOUT THE REALIZATION LEVEL OF THE GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE SCIENCE CURRICULUM

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the opinions of the science teachers on the realization of the general objectives of the science curriculum. The research was conducted through the case study model of qualitative research. The working group constituted 6 science teachers who are working in the province of Çanakkale in the academic year of 2015 and 2016. A semi-structured interview form consisting of 5 categories and 15 questions was used as the data collection tool. Data was alayzed through descriptive and content analysis by using comparative technique and five different categories codings were formulated. It was found that science teachers' levels of knowledge regarding learning approaches and learning fields at the core of the Science Curriculum are increased not because of their working duration because of their high education level. It was also concluded that science teachers often considered science curriculum as effective/sufficient in the context of knowledge category; however they often regarded it as ineffective/insufficient in the context of skill, sense and science-technology-society-environment (STSE) categories.
