Abstract

The main subject of this study is to determine effects of screen-reading to students’ attitudes towards reading. The research is conducted according to study mixed research model (mixed methods) that quantitative and qualitative research techniques are deal with together. In the research, from quantitative research models pre-test last-test group model; from qualitative research models, interview technique were used. Dependent variable of research is students’ the level of attitude towards the reading. Independent variable of research is the stage where reading texts were presented. Students in experiment group read determined text on computer screen; students in control group read it on printed paper. Working group of research consists of 41 students in total that study at 8/A and 8/B grades of public school in Kocaeli Province Kandıra District. Quantitative data of research was acquired by ‘Personal Information Form’, “Attitude scale for secondary school students for reading (Özbay and Uyar, 2009) and ‘Reading Texts’. Qualitative data of research was provided by semi-structured interview form. Qualitative data of research was analyzed by using content analysis, namely categoric analysis; and quantitative data was analyzed by transferring to “SPSS 17 for Windows” package programme. As a consequence of research, it was concluded that reading implementations from printed paper does not increase attitudes of students towards the reading, on the contrary it decreases; but implementations of screen-reading increases attitudes of students in experimental group towards the reading (p<.05). On the process of screen-reading, from qualitative data of research it was concluded that reading students did not feel any unwillingness; screen-reading encouraged students for screen-reading and it effected reading willingness of students positively.

EKRANDAN OKUMANIN OKUMAYA YÖNELİK TUTUMA ETKİSİ

Year 2013, Volume: 9 Issue: 4, 314 - 333, 25.06.2013

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ekrandan okumanın, öğrencilerin okumaya yönelik tutumlarına etkisini belirlemektir.
Araştırma, nitel ve nicel analiz tekniklerinin birlikte kullanıldığı karma araştırma modeline (mixed methods) göre
yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ön-test son-test kontrol gruplu model; nitel araştırma
yöntemlerinden de mülâkat tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bağımlı değişkeni, öğrencilerin okumaya yönelik
tutum düzeyleridir. Araştırmanın bağımsız değişkeni de okuma metninin sunulduğu ortamdır. Deney grubundaki
kullanılarak; nicel verileri ise “SPSS 17 for Windows” paket programına aktarılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma
sonucunda, uygulamaların yapıldığı ortaokulda basılı sayfadan okuma uygulamalarının kontrol grubu
öğrencilerinin okumaya yönelik tutumlarını arttırmadığı, düşürdüğü; ancak ekrandan okuma uygulamalarının
deney grubu öğrencilerinin okumaya yönelik tutumlarını arttırdığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır (p < .05). Araştırmanın
nitel verilerinden de ekrandan okuma sürecinde, öğrencilerin isteksizlik hissetmedikleri; ekrandan okumanın
öğrencileri ekrandan okumaya isteklendirdiği ve öğrencilerin okumaya yönelik tutumlarını olumlu yönde etkilediği
sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.
