Abstract

Purpose: To examine the relationship between emotional regulation and sensory processing in adolescents. Material and Methods: The sample consisted of 136 high school students. The Regulation of Emotions Questionnaire and the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile Questionnaire were used to assess emotional regulation and sensory processing responses, respectively. Spearman’s Correlation Test determined relationships between data from the scales, with statistical significance set at p<0.05. Results: There was a weak negative correlation between external dysfunctional emotional regulation and low registration patterns (r=-0.171, p<0.05); a weak positive correlation with sensory seeking patterns (r=0.198, p<0.05); a moderate negative correlation with sensory sensitivity patterns (r=-0.426, p<0.01); and a weak negative correlation with sensory avoiding patterns (r=-0.216, p<0.05). Internal dysfunctional emotional regulation showed a moderate negative correlation with sensory sensitivity patterns (r=-0.426, p<0.01) and a weak negative correlation with sensory avoiding patterns (r=-0.223, p<0.01). External functional emotional regulation exhibited a weak positive correlation with sensory seeking patterns (r=0.356, p<0.01). Conclusion: The relationships between emotional regulation and sensory processing in adolescents vary according to the sensory-behavioral patterns of the emotional regulation styles they use. This is particularly important for professionals such as teachers, occupational therapists, psychologists, and parents who interact with adolescents.

Adölesanlarda Duygu Düzenleme ve Duyusal İşlemleme Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Adölesanlarda duygu düzenleme ve duyusal işlemleme arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmamızın örneklemini ortaöğretimine devam eden gönüllü 136 öğrenci olurşturdu. Katılımcıların duygu düzenleme yanıtları için Ergenler İçin Duygu Düzenleme Ölçeği ve duyusal işlemleme yanıtları için Adölesan/Yetişkin Duyu Profili Anketi kullanıldı. Ölçeklerden elde edilen verilerin ilişkilerini belirlemek için Spearman Korelasyon Testi kullanıldı. İstatistiksel anlamlılık için p<0,05 kabul edildi. Sonuçlar: Dışsal işlevsel olmayan duygu düzenleme ile düşük kayıt arasında zayıf ve negatif korelasyon (r=-0,171, p<0,05); duyusal arayış arasında zayıf ve pozitif korelasyon (r=0,198, p<0,05); duyusal hassasiyet arasında orta derece ve negatif korelasyon (r=-0,426, p<0,01); duyusal kaçınma arasında zayıf ve negatif korelasyon bulunmuştur (r=-0,216, p<0,05). İçsel işlevsel olmayan duygu düzenleme ile duyusal hassasiyet arasında orta derece ve negatif korelasyon (r=-0,426, p<0,01); duyusal kaçınma arasında zayıf ve negatif korelasyon bulunmuştur (r=-0,223, p<0,01). Dışsal işlevsel duygu düzenlenme ile duyusal arayış arasında zayıf ve pozitif korelasyon bulunmuştur (r=0,356, p<0,01). Tartışma: Adölesanlarda duygu düzenleme ve duyusal işlemleme arasındaki ilişkiler, adölesanların kullandıkları duygu düzenleme stillerine göre duyusal-davranışsal kalıplar çeşitlilik göstermektedir. Adölesanlar ile etkileşimi olan öğretmen, ergoterapist, psikolog gibi profesyoneller ve ebeveynler için bu durum oldukça önemlidir.
